David Hughes - The Gerald Ratner of Rugby League? Discuss. Or not as the case may be.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_66844.jpg |

David Hughes is the architect of the club's misfortune.
It's hard to have a discussion about Wigan having virtual carte blanche in London without mentioning him.

| Not understanding the Wigan carte blanche comment. They brought one game to London, do you think that was an attempt to increase home support? Maybe it was a genuine attempt to to raise the profile of the sport in the capital. Why are they doing the Hemel thing? Looking for talent, but if it raises the profile of my sport great!

| Who does it harm?
Surely getting more balls in the hands of more kids of the right age is 100% the right thing for the medium-long term.
Think about the following potential outcomes-
-Kid enjoys self, comes back, falls in love with RL, has talent, plays top level, inspires future kids
-plays to pro/semi-pro, bolstering hemel/london/other southern sides with players
-plays at amateur level, boosts game, becomes coach, nurtures future talent
- Becomes lifelong fan, increasing £££ into the game
- Kids parent works for a big company, manages to get corporate £££ into the sport
- kid has association with the game, encourages own kid to get involved in 20 years time, builds virtuous circle.

Wigan & Broncos can't work together.
The reason being David Hughes & his long track record of rubbing people up the wrong way.
How anyone can think different beggars belief.

| Wigan do these coaching clinics all over the place (primarily for selfish reasons) . They do it to see if they can unearth another Sam Tomkins or the like . At the same time they are doing this they are introducing young kids (boys and girls) to Rugby League . Possibly not just future star players but future supporters as well .
If this introduces just a few kids to start watching Wigan , Bronco's , Hemmel or Scholars it is surely better than driving people away in the numbers one RL club seems to be doing at present . (I take no pleasure in saying that before i am shot down in flames again).
As always Best Regards , EW

| Quote: Bostwick "A with much that happens with Wigan these days. I think it is all smoke and mirrors, done on the cheap, then making extravagant claims as to its success, and for something so successful, it is not repeated.
Will the Home game in London happen again next season. I have my doubts.'"
People have a downer on Wigan I can live with that . People resent Wigan trying to mussel in on London talent I can live with that . Doing things on the cheap i think is a bit of the mark . Millwall cost Wigan a fortune (free travel for over 2k fans c/w free an discounted tickets). Capital Challenge again in January for the third year (loss making and expensive). They are trying something new and it ain't coming cheap but . SPECULATE TO ACCUMULATE and all that .
Some people would love it all to fall apart and fail . There is every chance it might do but it won't be for the want of trying . If the Bronco's had put a fraction of their turnover and as much effort into ventures like this it could be oh so different (that saddens me but is a sad fact).
Regards , EW

| Cowgirl so what evidence do you have to back up yr comments on Mr h relationship with other owners especially il
If Wigan UN earth a tomkins .Or Burgess in London brilliant
If they spot a couple of lms Dan sarg even better, if we worked with em we may benefit
Even if we don't then Wigan ain't taking them all up north

| I wasn't there but Hughes was reported as slagging off Wigan at the last fans forum.
If true hardly evidence of a harmonious relationship.

| Wigan have held some youth camps with Brentwood Eels as well. Another club to throw into the outer void?

| Ah so evidence is based on something you heard someone say about something someone said about another club, that clears it up then, thanks for that it must be gospel then.
Taff, did anything come out of the eels camp? Any increase in numbers, any lads progressed

| I dont care about the politics or the personalities involved I just want to see RL in London grow. I dont care how it is done as long as it brings young lads along and gives them a chance to excel in a sport they love as much as me. As long as the dealings are fair and honest for these kids does it matter who is doing what. Roll on anyone who can genuinely grow the sport in the south east. We have good kids here but they are not born into the history of RL like there counterparts so why dont we give them a chance to develop by any way which is legal and above board.

So basically you're saying other forum members are liars.

| You are not getting flack mate, I am merely asking you what your evidence is that DH rubs people up the wrong way, you simply came back with something you heard someone say at something you were not at.
For all you know dh and Ian l may have a very good relationship, just because David supposedly said summat about Wigan does not mean he could not work with em.
Yr obsession is dull

| It's a fairly open secret David and Ian had a falling out over the value of Ian's shareholding when the RFL ordered him to sell up. Not sure of the current relationship but a few recent events may give a hint.
