| Just back from the game, an 80 mile round trip in the rush hour. I wish I hadn’t bothered!
It looked like we had been training with a bar of soap, we didn’t have a game plan and our support play was nonexistent. We have no creativity and if this is a team that has designs on winning Super League as McDermott claims then can I borrow his rose tinted spectacles?

| Quins were lethargic
Cats were sharp off the play of the ball
the ref was pathetic possibly even biased IMO
Quins passing was errant and why were the wingers doing all the drives.
Do props and second rows not want to damage their model looks?
Purdam was throwing the ball without looking just hoping someone would catch it
shocking (except last 10 minutes when they woke up)

| Disgraceful performance. There were never ever over 2500 there. 2450 home fans? Of course there was. Double the number that attended the Challenge Cup match? What are the club doing?

i'd believe it, i pay on the gate and in the cheap seats i usually get to chose from quite a good selection, most were sold out in AH +AJ infact i only had from 6 seats to chose from.
Cheers PC Plum for the good seat

| If I had to think up the most infuriating sequence of events that could be crammed into 80 minutes to really p*** me off it wouldn't be far different to last night. If the game had lasted another five minutes I'm sure we'd have won, but it was too little too late.
From the moment Will Sharp gifted them a comedy first try, somehow throwing the ball straight to an opponent as he was running it back upfield (I think it just slipped right out of his hand as he attempted to swerve a tackle) we looked clueless and it was a relief to reach half time only ten points adrift.
We looked fired up at the start of the second half but couldn't make the early breakthough and they scored the next try to make the game look safe for them. By the time it was 12-28 with around ten minutes left we suddenly woke up and cut out the mistakes. Louie scored a superb try, barging through several tackles, Melling got another after Dorn had been crudely fouled on a counter attack without the referee giving a penalty, then we could even have won it on the last play of the game when Melling(?) broke clear after the hooter but was closed out on the left wing.
I wasn't at all happy with the referee; his entire performance was erratic and inconsistent and their second and third tries came off the back of debatable penalties abetted by flimsy defending; their lying on and offside infringements were largely ignored as was the crude foul on Dorn in the build up to the final try, and some very strange decisions went against us. However, our handling was shocking; the number of unforced errors especially in attacking situations drove me to dispair. Catalans did outplay us for periods, forcing a huge number of goalline dropouts, but when we finally got our act together we made them look extremely ordinary and, all else being equal, would have actually beaten them without needing to play any better but for that bizarre first try that gifted them a head start.

Pushing water uphill: |

| A striking feature of last night was how many errors we made against how few they made. As well as Sharp's error for the first try, two more were gifted from dropped kicks (one indirectly from the scrum for the knock-on) and Tony missed a tackle for another. Though it's frustrating that stopping just one of these seemingly would have meant us winning in the end, in truth we were a distant second best for 90% of the game. Credit to the Cats for the pressure at the play-the-ball and for Bosc's relentless kicking, what a talented lad he is. Lord knows how many drop-outs he forced in the second-half.

My pleasure - helps when 4 of my group of 5 couldn't make it due to bedtime and work commitments ! Don't get used to the expensive seats though.
Where do you start on a display like that. At 6-30 I was losing the will to live on the M25, but persevered and now I am not sure why. I think I passed Quins enthusiasm, aggression and support play somewhere around Rickmansworth.
I cannot think of one Catalans try that they 'worked', everything was on the back of Quins mistakes (and there were plently of those) and repeat sets of six. I was amazed we withstood some of the pressure for the time we did. Our performance was shocking, but as already mentioned, the French official was atrocious. He gave us two penalties very late in game which put a different slant on the penalty count, but overall he let them slow the play the ball a la Wigan, stroll off side continually, missed the most obvious indiscretions (two leading to Catalans tries) and what was worse, getting conned by the experienced set of Aussies.
On the player front, nobody stood out in an exceptional sense, Will Sharp had a shocker, Matt Gardner flapped his arms to every high ball as if he was waving to a passing plane, Luke Gayle at times threw some woeful passes, Luke Williamson (was he playing ?), Temeta and Heckenberg pedestrian at best - actually I am wrong Haggerty and LMS added a bit of grunt when they came on. As for Tony Clubb - he is not a centre, he is not a second row, gets by on the wing, how about a bash at prop ?
Another 'not a good day at the office', let's hope Monday is better and the HKR game a massive improvement.

That's the game in a nutshell. Despite the closeness of the final score that was the biggest single difference between the sides. They didn't give us anything cheaply. It's amazing we got as close as we did in the end.
