| Quote ="Kelvin's Ferret"Gale had a good game, but he had Danny Orr along side him for the whole game. When he's been asked to play in the halves at points this season without Orr he's struggled. People need to realise that Orr is our key halfback, without him the side lacks direction.'"
Dont disagree that Gale needs another half back with him and Orr fits the bill on this performance, but a good kicking game is critical to creating scoring chances and getting good field position and with Gale in there and GETTING the ball to kick was a big factor in a very clinical and structured winning performance. I still say Orr's kicking game is way below what we need despite the odd occasion when he kicks a good ball. He cant get real distance on his kicks and rarely splits the backs - its usually straight to them. Few half backs are 'good' defenders which is unsurprising the way forwards target them. Im Ok with Dorns contribution but this is a big chance for Gale to show an alternative way of playing in the halfs. If he makes a good fist of it he will take some dislodging

| personally, the only problem i have with Dorn is that he never seems to want to get tackled, he throws the ball away sometimes looking like he just doesn't want to get hit. Thats my only problem with him. Hopefully Gale will step up now though.

| Dorn is eighth in the league in assists this season.
Orr is top.
pretty good combo if you ask me - let gale develop at his own pace rather than doing the English thing of saying every promising youngster is going to be the best player ever.

He doesn't need to be the best player ever. He just needs to be better than Dorn. And already he is miles ahead.
Feel free to rely on the statistics to guide you - those that watch the performances of players and those who have a clue about rugby league are miles ahead of you. Enjoy your Luke Dorn fan club.
HTH.

| Gale was almost completely ineffective against KR in the home game without Orr on the pitch, and good against KR away with Orr on the pitch.
I don't know how that makes him better than Dorn.

What do you expect? Gale to carry the team with no half back partner? Of course he's going to play better with Orr on the pitch, they link together, and Orr is a specialised scrum half.

| My point was that Gale has shown no evidence of being better than Dorn, so I was interested in what made you so certain.
What I want, among other things, is for our half backs to be able to win games, regardless of who they are partnered with. I also want Gale to do well, he should be the long term replacement and current cover for Danny Orr. I think he has the talent to do so.

I suspect the talent is certainly there and Leeds have just signed someone up themselves which confirms it. SL clubs just lack the nerve to take a gamble nowadays. If BM releases a few this season and brings some unknown in from the NL I will wait to see them perform before I call it a backward step. Gale has certainly expanded our strength in depth if nothing else
