| Quote: nadera78 "Ignoring for a moment the ridiculous idea that the Broncos might ever again challenge for promotion, the "ability to expand" is an interesting phrase. Yes, there is the space to increase spectator capacity but that doesn't mean Ealing Council would grant planning permission for it. In fact, I think they'd be highly unlikely to.'"
Nadera apologies if this almost looks like stalking from one forum to another! Quite agree there is no guarantee. The site is identified as Metropolitan Open Land on which Green Belt principles of control are meant to apply. At least Ealing Council think the ground as being underused as a RU ground. And while in a strategy they recognise the need for sports clubs to meet standards set by governing bodies, that ain't a policy.

| In the unlikely event it is needed Broncos may well get planning permission for temporary stands there. The stand behind the posts looks suspiciously temporary from photos. The MOL issue may well explain why. Permanent stands would be a much bigger issue.

| Lionel Road won't be ready until at least 2018 according to a member of the project team last week.

| Broncos will likely be playing on Wimbledon Common by that point with plans to upgrade from jumpers for goalposts if required.

| So Broncos make the middle 8 and get promoted to SL in Oct. The Super league season kicks of in Feb.
When would the upgrade happen!!!!!
I'm just pleased that the ground is all embracing. Its somewhere to walk my dog on match day. They've always said its a family sport.

| I think they'll worry about in the unlikely event it happens tbh.
Realistically it would be do-able using temporary stands, especially if planning permission was requested before the season ended. However given this deal seems to be based around getting the club to stand on its own feet financially I'd suggest it's unlikely Ealing council will be troubled by such a planning application before the deal expires.

| Perry wrote [OH NO! They aren't changing anything in the slightest.] And in a nutshell that is the problem. Nothing is changing it is the same year in year out. No advancement, no passion, no fire in the belly, no owner to listen to what the club needs. That is why fans are moving away and this last ditch attempt could be the final nail in the coffin. What a stupid move. I appreciate the club needs money to run and DH provides that unquestionably but he also needs knowledgeable sports people around him who know how to run a sports club and who are listened to by the owner -DH is an intelligent man of which there is no doubt you don't attain such a living and fortune without hard work and intelligence but he is a very blinked man when it comes to listening to informative sports club people and understanding a clubs needs. Perry - you, Mickey1234, Jaybs, cranewife etc can constantly chip away at people like GF, COwgirl, Wire Quin but they know what they are talking about. They understand what is needed. They understand what is going to work and they like a vast number of others on this site and at games understand that Ealing is too far backwards for to sit comfortably with them and hence I fear an even bigger drop in fans. Another ground surely could have been found. One which would show we are not rich but has the basics like training area, decent pitch a stand and a club house. We should have been able to buy into another smaller club and worked with them. LB fans have been brilliant over the years and done many things to help the club like cleaning up after games to manning the ticket office, to SAGS and supporters clubs but this is a step too far. This season will be our last as a club with a future for a very long time. Next season may even be the last we only get 350 fans now so what is going to happen next season. And before you chip away at me to ask do I go to games the answer is yes I do and travel many hours to do so and I also do occasional away games.

| I'm trying to take a positive out of this.
Makes me wonder if the club is easier to sell playing out of Ealing; just below the SL, with no debts(DH will pick up I assume), a history of playing in the top Div, a desire from most in the sport to expand the game, limited staffing/playing costs (affordable SC for a wealthy guy), linked up with another form of rugby, P&R back in, only tied in for 3 years, possibility to look at the Wigan experiment......
For us looking back it is doom and gloom, for a wealthy guy looking forward is the club in a good position to take it on with some hard negotiation with the RFL beforehand.
Is that as creative in its imagination as the announcement yesterday

OK, fair enough.
But you know as well as I do we are in a Catch 22. We exist on DH's money, and we slowly die from DH's decisions. If he stays we whither, if he walks we implode. We're a rich man's play thing, and you and I aren't rich enough to buy him out.
Thing is, I don't need certain posters constantly telling me this. Not least because it won't change things.

Point of order. I don't chip away at Cowgirl or Wire Quin, we've agreed and disagreed on many occasions, but as far as I can recall, we've always kept it civil.
I don't 'chip away' at GF for that matter, but I do stand up to him when he's being rude, ill mannered, or personally abusive (which is quite often). I wouldn't put up with that in the bar, so I'm damned if I putting up with it on here. As for knowing what he's talking about? Well all he ever talks about is the past (which I already know), and how great he is (which if he needs to shout it suggests he isn't as great as he thinks he is).
The rest of your post I agree with, but why are you telling me? I don't need to have expained to me what a slow motion train crash the club is, I've been riding the train during the crash! It's all very well talking about passion, and fire in the belly, but no amount of that from me or anyone else on here will alter the fact that we haven't got the money to buy the club off DH. And no amount of attacking other posters on here will change that either. We are essentially powerless.
As for Ealing. Do you honestly, honestly think I'm looking forward to flogging my sorry backside to the fag-end of west London, next to a toilet of an estate, to watch them play on a glorified park pitch? Seriously??
If you look back on this thread you'll find at least two posts from me where I said if we're not buying in it's a bad move. So why did you need to type so many words telling me what a bad move it is??

| I think the main point is as much as there are lots of people out there who allegedly have all the answers to what the club should do, no one is in the position to actually do anything about it firstly they don't have the money and secondly things actually ain't that straight forward.
If arguing those points with them is chipping away them so be it.
Am I happy that we are going to ealing, of course not, but again it is what it is, I don't have the money to pump into the club to push things in a different direction
It's not glibly standing by or accepting the situation, it's the realisation that it is what it is
