| Quote: Perry "I had a chilli con carne in the Amber Lounge, and it was spot on. I like the ground. A few teething issues, but nothing major, already dropped an e-mail to the commercial manager at the Hive with a few suggestions.
On the park, the kicking game was a real positive, and it was good that they played for the full 80. On the minus side I still ended up shouting at JOC to watch his wing, will he ever learn?'"
Nice to hear some more positives. Its early days so it will take time to get used to how things work and where to go to get things but im sure it will all fall into place. My biggest problem was figuring out who the players were at a distance.
Gigot has always had a big kick on him and we definately got the benefit yesteday. Hopefully we can get our short kicking game and the 'follow up' sorted and get some tries from them.

| It really felt like a step forward despite the predictably small attendance, the players were committed and focussed, the atmos. was intimate and passionate. MUCH more like the GP days.
Gigot's kicking was top-notch, caused Salford all sorts of problems. As the re-enforcements arrive I can see us winning a few games and crowds improving.
Only negative was the young London 'fan' a few rows back swearing his mouth off all game.

| Hooking options are actually better than a few teams in SL, the forwards gained yards, the only thing that let them down was some soft tackling, I actually thought if not for the weak defence they gave Salford as good as they got.
Like I said though the Salford backs found holes a little bit too easy and too often.
The spirit was there though and because you're so close to the action you can hear them talking, they were all genuinely trying to keep each other up and their heads didn't drop.

Highlights on the reds site show some very dodgy tackling and we need to sort out a Full Back......because being the last line of defence is probably not what the average NRL club use their FB for and the incumbent looks very uninterested (in the clips I've seen to date)

| That was it for me, Rea just needs to sort that out, in fact if I was him it's all I'd work on this week, there is a spark in this team that wasn't there last season though.

Uninterested as in...he didn't look very interested in tackling the man with the ball. A full back facing a straight 2 on 1 is not expected to work miracles, but at least either hit the guy with the ball or genuinely go for the intercept.....a few times last weekend he did neither....he didn't look interested.
If you're going to pick holes in my posts regarding my opinion of the players performances I can always remind you of the merits of hiring a CEO from cricket ![CURTAIN curtain.gif](images/smilies//curtain.gif)

He went for the ball carrier on one occasion, on others he was caught in no man's land. Over here they say take one person out. If the bloke passes, tough, if he's dummied, he gets smashed. I don't see getting it wrong as being uninterested.

| I thought that we played again very conservatively as per Widnes with only a few offloads and did not make many metres running as per last week at a bigger pack. Only one player made over 100 metres for us and also there were few clean breaks. In defence it was generally average with many players having 3 missed tackles and Moore close to double digits. O'C turned up late and made 0 tackles. It doesn't surprise me we conceded 44 points.
We were ripped off when one knock on was dropped onto a Broncos heel and re gathered whilst Hock should have seen red and was left on to set a try up, whilst Bishay should have grounded and we had a bad spell before half time which killed the game off.
Second half was a 6 point margin so better.
What was pleasing was Gigot with his brilliant kicking game, having been anonymous the week before. Cook, Cunningham, Krasniqi and Caton Brown were also really very good.
I thought the Leeds loanees were very quiet in attack and need to raise their game.
Mataitonga seemed a bit aimless when he got the ball and not keen to run.
What was pleasing is the ethos of working hard and the clubs youngsters like Lovell and Meek Mike did well.
It was a relief to see the team again that is for sure. I was shocked at a Widnes team who I see as borderline 8 and this was better, but progress is needed

| Mark, very interested in your analysis. Is this your own or are you using a computer programme based on full coverage or stats? Any pro playing experience? This is a genuine enquiry (in the current climate on this board it seems necessary to say this) and I am interested in the basis for your thoughts.

| Some great points mark. Was impressed by Gigots kicking ability and spatial awareness of the Hive pitch already also.
Think Mataitonga is getting a lot of unecessary criticism. Of course I understand the backs have to run forward when they receive the ball back in our defence....but I don't think he was moving aimlessly, but looking for gaps. See it from the Shauny Johnsons, Sam Tomkins how they are always looking and probing for the correct angle to make a break....hopefully in time we will see some exciting running Rugby from him.

The OP directed this thread to those who went to the Hive. I didn't and so have no comment other than that drawing conclusions on players' performances based purely on a couple of minutes "highlights" is nonsense. We conceded a lot of tries. Most of the "highlights" show these tries being scored against us so of course any of our players involved may show up in a bad light.
And the other 78 minutes of the match? How can I or anybody else who wasn't there possibly comment on them?

| First 25 minutes pretty even then Broncos had a mini meltdown for the last 15 of the half, 2nd half was pretty even even if some of the tries were a little soft, the Salford fullback though was like sh*t off a shovel.

Nay bother. Try and make the next game and you will have more to comment on the whole game than just the highlights perhaps.

Well, I wasn't planning on going to Bradford, even if there were to be a game there this weekend, but had thought of enduring FGW and TfL for the Wire game. However, FGW are planning on using a bus instead of a train for the first part of my journey so my enthusiasm is somewhat dimmed.
