simpsons/017.jpg Welcome Quins Kitties born 02.04.09 -
Purdo - Determined, loveable with a "can-do" attitude. A born leader.
Louie - Big, white and fluffy. A very noisy prop forward.
Harley- Cute and gorgeous (just like our no.9) Well, I couldn't call her Chad, could I?
Update on Quins Mogs :-
Purdo - deffo leader amongst Mogs. The Capo.
Louie - turned out to be more like Louie Spence than LMS. Re-named Judas.
Harley - Cute but not as gorgeous as our no.9.
Oh well, at least I haven't got a Willy.:simpsons/017.jpg |
|
| Our erstwhile Chairman said we were to stop using Quins RL, as people thought RL was short for Rugby Lessons!
Harlequins Rugby League is a bit of a mouthful, though.

| Tbh i think the name 'London Harlequins' would build you a bigger profile and help you to dinstinguish yourselves from the Rugby Union club.

| The origional thread asked if we have to stay as Harlequins Rugby league
Not should we move back to brentford?
Purely do we have to stay as Harlequins RL in whatever guise that is
we had to change to harlequins with the move, and i do not deny that we could not be viable if we were not playing at the stoop
I personally get asked where we play? not just is it at Twickenham but is it London?
Questions come from people who are showing an interest in the game
Look at the origions of Harlequins RU
In fact the club are "the Harlequins of London"
Has the "HARLEQUINS BRAND" worked for us? dont really think so
What would be wrong with us includign LONDON somwhere in the club name??
And yep you are correct in France we are known as London Harlequins

And that should also be the case elsewhere so as to distinguish us from this more longstanding rugby league club (though they seem to have folded ): cowlingharlequins.wetpaint.com/

| It was made clear at the time that the RU club said we had to play as Harlequins if we were to be at The Stoop, they would not permit London Harlequins or anything similar. Given Mark Evans was one of the driving forces behind it, and he is still around at Quins RU, I doubt that position has changed.

And so it shouldn't!
When will people learn not to rise to rupe1's rubbish? Just let his little threads fall off the boards with 0 replies then then he might kindly disappear for good like he has from The Stoop - excellent.

In answer to Rupe1.....I believe it was a condition of the move to TW2 that we took on the Harlequins Name in some shape or form. I am not aware of any clause that states we can/can't use London, but I for 1 am happy with the name. As a London Irish man, the wearing of the technicoloured shirt does rankle slightly, but all in all, I think the move has worked on vertain levels and should be maintained.

| ...well, as many of you will be pleased to hear, I've had enough of Quins RL and all it stands for......it's certainly not the venue or location area or Union association that I ever expected when 29 seasons ago I watched my first pro. club game in London.
Never liked Quins - the union mob that is - for over 60 years anyway.....and have always felt that the 'name' change was both suspect and highly flawed plus, as it's certainly proved to be, unlikely to add any numbers to our gate.
Furthermore, our management has been well below par as has the playing staff most seasons since the orignial Bronco owners were dispatched by the 'bearded' wonder kid!
Enough is enough and will not be a season ticket holder next season and even unlikely to buy any ticket to any game either....... the Club is a load of 'c...' and it's Directors a joke......
So after 29 seasons of Fulham, Crusaders - the only good marketable 'name' we ever had, Broncos and more recently Harlequins am off the game almost totally except for Wembley Cup Finals and on my annual trips to Perpignan and Sydney.
Ciao, all you 'round ball' wonders who watch the 'great game' but know so, so little about it and even less about the rules, the pain and the skills need.

This probably won't be the response you expected, but what has changed in the last few weeks/months to make you come to that decision?
Management has pretty much always been a joke one way or the other and the playing staff have been fairly constant results wise over the past 13 seasons since ESL came into being.........so what has changed and what would you consider to be the answer?

| Sorry Homer but after 29 seasons and 14 in SL the Club has become a joke. with the directors happy to continue with 'mediority' and seemingly unwilling to make any real investment in an on going marketing & promotional programme and to be quite frank consider our link with both the Harlequins brand and the Union club to be highly flawed.
You ask why.now.....well the last straw was because of our association with a outfit who in order to 'win' are willing to 'cheat'........
Will continue to support and watch Rugby League but not QuinsRL....had enough.
By the way Gutterfax ...... suggest the sooner you are off to the 'Land of the White Cloud' the better, though think your sometime 'snide gutter snip' remarks will get you a real pounding down there ........ the locals do not like 'noisy' incommers.

Time for a history lesson I think.....................
History
The Hampstead Football Club was founded in 1866 and the first recorded game took place in 1867. They were re-named Harlequin Rugby Football Club in 1870, supposedly because the membership was no longer purely local but the HFC monogram had to be retained. The word 'Harlequin' was found in a dictionary and all present agreed to the new name. This caused a split in the membership and the half that did not form the Harlequins went off and formed a club known as the Wasps.
For their first 40 years, they were very nomadic in their existence and played at a total of 15 venues. Since 1909, they have only played at three.
In 1906, the Quins were invited by the Rugby Football Union to use the new national stadium in Twickenham. In those early days, only one or two internationals were played there during the season, and it wasn't long before the RFU ground became the Headquarters of the Harlequin Football Club.
The 1910 saw the rise of the Harlequins club, whose effective brand of attacking rugby led to a purple period in the years leading up to the First World War.
In 1963, the Quins acquired an athletics ground with 14 acres (57,000 m²) just over the road from the RFU ground, which became the Harlequin training pitch. This has subsequently become their home This is named after Adrian Dura Stoop, who won 15 caps for England and is said to have been the person who developed modern back play.
On the field, and with the introduction of leagues in 1987 bringing with it a more competitive environment, the Quins had maintained their status in the Premier Division as one of England's top 12 clubs until 2005.
The club has won the Rugby Football Union clubs knockout competition on two occasions: the John Player Cup in 1988 and Pilkington Cup in 1991. In addition, they played in the finals of 1992, 1993 and 2001.
The Quins became the first British team to win the European Shield in 2001, defeating Narbonne 42-33 in the final. They then became the first team to win the tournament twice, defeating Montferrand 27-26 in the final of the renamed Parker Pen Challenge Cup on 22 May 2004.
Harlequins during the 2005-2006 season
In 2005 they were relegated to National Division One after finishing at the bottom of the Zurich Premiership. In July of that year they announced that they would be establishing a partnership with rugby league club London Broncos, which saw the two clubs sharing Harlequins home ground of The Stoop from the start of the 2006 Super League season. As part of the deal, the Broncos changed their name to Harlequins Rugby League, though the two clubs remain under separate ownership.

| I think it's a pretty open secret that blood bins were dumped in RL because sales of fake blood capsules had gone up in a few areas not a million miles from RL grounds.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and all that............
