Lets hope 2018 isn't a feet finding season.

| It's no surprise really and what we all expected. He was side by side with hendo so you could say it's continuity. For me I prefer this to the likes of sharpe and kear, there time has been and gone.
As for the fact he was a big ugly fwd, is that not what everyone says we are lacking? Maybe under his influence we could bring that type of player in.
As for 2nd tier rugby, bring in Wayne bennet, Mal meninga, or who ever without lots to spend on the players squad we are staying there.

| The general consensus seems to be that it is a good move. Let's see.
My season prediction now looks like this;
Leigh/Toronto 1/2
TO 3
Fax/Fev/Broncos 4/5/6 in any order

| Just been speaking to another Broncos supporter. He asked if this was another Rob Powell moment? I hope not.

That's exactly what it is, but we have a good club-man in the hot seat so that's good news all round. Just like the local cricket club in the village.
DH can bend his ear etc. Win Win

Please support Rob Purdham's testimonial season: |

Oh come on!! Danny Ward played for GB and in countless SL games. His experience in the game is vastly superior to Rob.

| Cheap, lazy option. A novice coach, in probably the toughest Championship in decades. And to make matters worse, Langley's now doing two jobs for the price of one. Struggle to make 4th place.

| But Daryl Powell wasn’t the new Daryl Powell for the first few years in coaching, and even went to Union for several years before becoming the new Daryl Powell.

Powell was/is a Good man and that wasn't good news.

| I get why some on here might feel underwhelmed, but I ask you, who would you have liked to see appointed(and no, not Jutin Holbrook, or Michael Maguire, etc). Realistically, who could have been in the frame ?
Option 1 - currently unemployed coaches, they are unemployed for a reason, Sharp, Smith, the French bloke, etc
Option 2 - currently employed coaches, so rules out SL and NRL, so perhaps a head coach from a lower league or assistant coach from a worldwide pool. Maybe transfer fee involved, but once again, the latter two points have inherent risks.
Option 3 - appoint from within
Does anyone think Fev fans were excited by Duffy signing on ? Or Leigh when Jukes took the helm ? Does Steve Price at Warrington smack of ambition ? The only recent coaching appointment that in my mind smacks of ambition was Sheens to HKR.
Good luck to Danny and Jamie, you've got my backing.

| You've written that in a way it points to Ward, very selective text
How did Bradford get Toovey a proven NRL coach ( I accept there were visa issues but thats administrative) or HKR Sheens or Toronto the gang they have (lets see what NY end up with)
Its how you sell it. If Hughes was committed to SL and said we will spend to SC max and we have a 10 year vision for a London SL club playing in a nice stadium I suspect the applicants would have been classy and global.
We have appointed a club man without the necessary skills, who hasn't played or coached under a top rated current thinking coach, who will do what Hughes says even to the point of playing players he likes (anyone who knows DH will testify he is very vocal (knowledgeable) on his preferred players/teams/approach). Its a lazy & easy appointment that sets the tone for a second tier village/town social drinking club team which we have become.
Until we get investment, thats where we are. Lets accept it, we are 300 drinking fans happy with second tier rugby league who can dwell on our past achievements in SL.
I will also add, and I may be wrong with this but Wardy is or could be viewed as a bit of a clown/fun like character. Maybe a modern characteristic of future successful coaches who knows. It will be interesting to see if he attends games in a vest and shorts or will change his attire in his newly found lofty position.
Interesting times. A gamble for sure lets hope it pays off.
Out of curiosity Plummy what constitutes your backing?

| My backing for what its worth, giving him a chance to prove himself (or otherwise), without getting on his case before a ball is kicked in earnest.
