| Quote: Homer "Even though this is a theoretical debate, that is a small minded comment which takes no account for what other considerations are, or could be in play.
For instance
Current costs of staying where we are coupled with little to no ongoing revenue streams by use of the facilities outside of 14 game days.
Investment from a council [only way to contemplate a move imo] in a sports arena in an area currently not served well, riding on the back of a "feel good" Olympics. [some forward thinking required there given current public sector finances]
Perceived understanding that despite all good intentions West London/Twickenham will probably never come to embrace this sport enough as a community.
If we stay as we are under the circumstances we operate in, then we will never be able to be anything other than a hand to mouth outfit.'"
I think that is harsh tbh. I stand by my comments. We should work with what we have and work with Harlequins RU to make a sustainable home for ourselves. Saracens managed, so did Sale, so did Leeds Carnegie etc. Why can't we?
This doesn't take 5 or 10 years, it takes more than that. Stating that after 5 years at the ground that Rugby League will never work in West London/Twickenham is ridiculous. It won't work anywhere in London within that time period. Moving again would be utter madness, unless we were absolutely forced into doing so by our landlord.

I'd assume they are selling the land for property much like ar*enal did with their old stadium to raise money for the club.
Would be great if we moved there though as it would half my journey time to home games!
DH said the stoop is our home for our next 3 year licence so we are just talking about long term speculation here but our own ground would be awesome, just hope wherever it is it's near a train station!

Watford have activated a clause kicking Saracens out of Vicarage Rd.
Sale managed to grab themselves a stadium when Brian Kennedy shafted Stockport County.
Leeds Carnegie are spending an extra £1million (they don't have) this season in a desperate bid to stay up because they can't afford to get relegated again. Bankrolled by the Rhinos no doubt.

My point was though that partnerships were set up and worked on, to relative success (for Saracens at least, wasn't aware they were being kicked out - any idea why?).
Leeds Carnegie aren't bankrolled by the Rhinos either.

If we don't make the Stoop work and build the fanbase over the next franchise I don't see how we could viably exist with our own stadium (unless outside SL). Thinking positively, if we did grow fanbase to a more sustainable level (5000+) would we really want to move outside West London and risk having to build numbers up again ?

There is no way our club as is it stands, or in 5 years, could support its own stadium. This is why it is essential we work WITH Harlequins RU and stay where were are for at least 20 years.

| Hmmm...positive statement about the club owning its own ground but realistically, even if the "land" was delivered to us for free, we would need to raise 30 million + to have a chance of building a ground. Not sure where Brentford are with Lionel road, but that ground (or the alternative towards Feltham) was going to be backed by a mix of private and council money......maybe there are stll discussions regarding that?
As someone else has said, Tesco have no problem bolting community projects on to mega-store plans to smooth the path of planning permission. I have always said the club need to be at a self sufficent stage of about 7,000 to 10,000 fans to be attractive to other investors...and to own our own ground we would need other investors without a doubt. Maybe this is the year that they actually do something about it with the campaign in METRO............

As examples of new stadium's Chesterfiled FC 10,300 capacity rlstadiumrl cost around £13million to build. Whilst Colchester United FC 10,000 capacity rlstadiumrl Cost aroud £14 million to build.
Not sure that either figure included purchase of land to build on but both clubs owned their previous homes which I dare say gave them a bit of leverage during negotiations.
What did Halliwell Jones cost Warrington when it was buit in 2002/3???
I reckon by the time we ever got around to building a ground it would cost at least £1900 - 2000 per seat for a 10 - 15k capacity stadium.

| A new stadium and proper home would be the best possible thing for RL in London. I can't believe anyone would suggest otherwise. Great news that this is an ambition.

Barry Hearn's angling for a cash payment from the premier league or west ham.
