1649_1338292262.jpg I have followed the LONDON CLUB since I was in my teensl even though born in St Helens and still live nearby and went to the first game at Fulham, also Big West Ham Supporter:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_1649.jpg |

| All I will say I wish players would put the ball down over the line, before they get excited! we played badly, but we had chances! Just such a shock after the two friendlies.

| Quote: oh well it's only round 1 "I'm personally offended by how bad that performance was.
If I hear one more person say "oh well it's only round 1" I'll scream. The fact that its round 1 does not excuse the fact that we've squandered two points at home to Widnes.
I can't even begin to describe how awful that was. Lovell, Kaufusi, Howell particularly wretched. After Gower went off we looked even more clueless, which I didn't think was possible after the first 40 minutes. Terrible atmosphere. Whose ideas was it to let Widnes fans sit on the east stand halfway line? Apparently we had a good pre-season, though I couldn't see any trace of it here. This idea that Widnes were awful - utter codswallop. They completed their sets and accomplished the basics, and made very few errors. We barely completed a set, knock-ons aplenty. Embarrassing. Humiliating.
Absolute rubbish from beginning to end. It feels like its going to be a long season.'"
About sums up my feelings - just about everything wrong. Atmosphere was awful (possibly our fault we did little shouting, though not much to shout about.
i went to Perpignan and the team played well and i was feeling very positive........... Problem lays with the forwards, we dont create a base at all - Widnes may be limited but they stuck to an effective game plan, made hardly any mistakes wehereas we - penalties were atrocious (and they had Roby in Perpignan so they knew he would be hot on laying on), handling errors etc etc. Lovell isnt a centre and shouldnt be there - but Channing is too small, JO'C seems to be going backwards.
dorn and Dixon only ones who can really hold their heads up - Bryant, Rodney, Bailey did OK. Chad's article in the programme interesting and seemed to suggest that mentally on match day last year team were not right - well that certainly happened this game!
Fear the worst for next week?

| Remember the season at Griffin Park where we lost our first game to Halifax (the only game they won) and we still made the playoffs? Always look on the bright side of London!

| Quote: wire quin "Thats it chaps lets accept a missed simple one on one tackle. Its only 4 points. After all it is Dorn- he is our fast runner not tackler.
What other inadequate aspects of the game are you going to accept
Were you happy with Witts missed tackles? Probably not because he isnt a fast runner he is a kicker!!
'"
i assume this is directed at least partly at me
didnt say i accepted or was happy with it did i, just that it was more understandable for dorn to miss a tackle at the end cos he was presumably knackered after doing the work of more than one for the rest of the 80- had the rest of the team had matched that effort then the same situation with widnes able to create 1-on-1 chances at the end may not have happened, or mattered.
no i was not happy with witts missed tackles in the same way that I wasnt happy with of the teams missed tackles, nor "other inadequate aspects of the game," where did i say i was? i was thoroughly appalled with the performance as clearly stated

| This was not one of our worst performances, some last year were far worse. If you look at the stats we were outperforming Widnes in most areas except one - errors made 20 against 8.
It also shows that the players making the most yards Dorn, Lovell, Dixon were also making the most errors. This all points to a confidence problem, though from considering the game I'm not sure whether it was over-confidence or under-confidence. Over to you Mr Rea.
No crowd is going to be noisy if you are down after a few minutes and 18 nil at half time.
Very disappointed but not as angry as last year there was a decent team out there playing with commitment but c**king it up.

| Error count very telling...................................... our handling at times is awful. we also never seem to learn re laying on and constantly get penalised, though i accept Mr Roby was not consistent

| Having persuaded the wife to try and finish work early and a very quick dash round the M25. to say I wasn't in her good books on the drive home is an understatement .
After all the talk of a good pre-season she was looking forward as well as me to a good game with a win, but was getting an earful with 15 minutes to go "of can we go now, its the same old thing".
Losing Gower as we all said was a blow. but felt Dorn stepped up and really tried his hardest to get the guys moving but it would have helped him a lot more if Witt could get his act together and play like we have seen him play in the past,. what happening to Witt's kicking game for a start.
Felt Hurst did ok with his move back into FB. and I know Lovell has took some stick when moved to centre and some brain farts but will say his size and bulk did take some taking down. and as for his dropped ball when scoring, well I was sitting right there and im sure he had ball over the line just grounded it to hard when being tackled it bounced up and could see why in goal judge wasn't sure and ref went to lino instead who said no try.
I get so annoy that when a player mades a break no one seems to be following him up ready for a pass, but stil seem to hang back and watch as if saying to themselves" wow thas a good move look at him go"..
If Gower is back for Hudds game, I would go back to having Gower/Dorn in halves (like they were at the backend of last season). With Robertson back on wing (if fit), then leave Hurst at FB and move Colbon into centres along side Robertson (gives some hight for bombs to corners), and hopefully have Sarg back too. Melling gives his all so I don't know why he shouldn't start game in 2nd row with Rodney and lave Bailey at LF. that leave Cook when fit on the bench in place of Melling.
Forgot to say credit has to go Widnes, they came with a game plan and stuck to it and their defence was brilliant, we could learn from them of one man goes low and another goes high to wrap ball up. As for Phil Joseph he done a load of damage run into the tackle hard and took some stopping. all I can say where were the club when this guys agent was looking for a club for him as he was only at trail with Widnes pre-season looking a contract.
Anyway I still give the Wakey game a go (if wife not working) and see how I feel then.

| Quote: Colly2 "Hurst does look good with ball in hand. I would like to see the Widnes tries again TBH - but our LHS got busted 3 times in the first half and I don't think Hurst looked good for any of them.
Lovell is a strange one - I just think he completely lacks a rugby league brain. He might go really well as a winger for now because he makes big yards but put him in-field and he chooses the wrong options, like you say.'"
Just watched the tries. I'll wind my neck in re. Hurst. He was already at full-back by 0-6 and so not responsible for the LHS busts taking the score to 0-12, 0-18. However, Lovell's defence gets worse on each viewing. Move him some place where he can make the yards but has little decision-making/defending to do.

We're not all Southern Softies: |
|
| To say I was "Pee'd Off" after yesterdays game is the understatement of the year.
I definately saw us play worse than that last season (Salford & Hull away) spring to mind.
After seeing the team play in their pre-season friendlies, I was impressed with their style of play & they actually seemed to have hit the ground running for a change, very few dropped passes & good backing up of the player with the ball & I was really looking forward to the Widnes game.
So what happened yesterday ?
Numerous dropped ball, lack of defence & cluless when they got the 5th tackle for a large part of the game, with just a high kick to the corners, which did not work.
The thing that hacks me off more than anything else is that the Players have let the fans down big time & don't seem to realise how damaging yesterdays result is in the bigger picture of our season.
Losing our first Home game has lost us any fans who had decided to give us a second chance this year & everybody feels totally let down by their lack of passion in trying to win this game.
Not looking forward to going to Huddersfield now !!!

| Quite impressed with Widnes. They made the best use of their resources and did not panic when we applied a little pressure. Think they could do a Wakey this season when they get their big names back.

Widnes had an effective game plan and knew how to exploit our weaknesses. They looked well organised and up for it, whereas we didn't.
