David Hughes - The Gerald Ratner of Rugby League? Discuss. Or not as the case may be.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_66844.jpg |

don't fancy buying the club only to be subjected to a hail of abuse from you know who.
Any new owner would get a clean slate from me.
Except maybe Gerald Ratner.
& even he would probably be a slight improvement on the incumbent.

| Quote: Bostwick "...Now if you are going to pluck names out of the SKY, ( No pun intended ) I would go for James or Lachlan Murdoch.
We however have to get on with it, with David Hughes.'"
I'm not sure they'd be interested. They both show far more interest in News Corp operations in the US than anywhere else, and James is virtually a full blown American these days. Neither seems to have any affinity for RL, unlike their dad. I suspect that as soon as Rupert pops his clogs Sky won't show much interest in Super League Europe any more.
In the same way the the Broncos need to plan for David Hughes money drying up, RL needs to plan for Sky money drying up.

| Featherstone on Good Friday was my favourite away game this season. Widnes my least. So disappointing.

Even that wouldn't deter some on here I expect.

| I started the season wanting two or three big ugly props and I ended the season wanting two or three big ugly props, next season will 'prolly be the same as for some reason London NEVER employ coaches who appreciate a good prop.

Wire Quin at work: |

| We got Thackeray but sadly lost Slyney due to injury.
I note Krasniqi has just signed a contract with Salford. The worlds best coach must see something that Joey didn't see.

| I always liked Krasniqi's heart and application on the pitch, but I've heard rumours that he could be a bit difficult off it.
However handling talent and getting the best out of them is part of the coaches job, though obviously there are limits to how much slack they can cut one individual.
Be interesting to see how he gets on. There are a lot of ex Broncos players who didn't look up to much playing for us, but who are now doing well elsewhere.

| Thats the nature of slipping down the order though isn't it.
Our best will leave, and the way things are, lets face it, it won't have cost Salford a Kings' Ransom will it? What would we have been paying him?
So for a tiny fraction of their salary cap they get an additional squad member, who can plug gaps for them when needed and who knows maybe they can develope him further.

Always liked Krasniqi too, never took a backward step. One thing I've noticed is how much better physically developed our lads appear to be after joining Northern clubs - take Dan Sarginson for example.

| Rob, Wheeldon at Cas is the one for me that reinforces your assessment. He was a fat slob at the Broncos.

| Omari Caro remained steadfastly crap though.
Surprised he hasn't rocked back up at Broncos.

cartoons/WB24.gif Life is pretty simple: You do stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.:cartoons/WB24.gif |
|
| The Season started with some optimism but as usual this was misplaced. A launch of sorts, quite low key but a launch none the less of the new kit and the squad. A shirt that once again started to look like a rugby league shirt. Then the pre-season friendlies started. Some encouragement at Catalan and then reality.
Most of the senior players around which the team was expected to be built upon were crocked or left. The Coach left, the usual northerner who went back almost as soon as the ink was dry on his contract when he discovered his bus pass didn’t work. The two on-field captains injured in the second game, neither to return for the season. The ‘prize’ half injured the year before and not available until mid Summer. A lack of props, oh a lack of props. Seven of the senior group missing so it was the kids that were expected to deliver. Would it have been any different, yes it might have been a lot worse. We could have limped through with 2016 having to be yet another complete start.
Instead the assistant coach steps up, sounds familiar, but one with a strong grounding and experience in the game. Maybe things could improve though the words of warning regarding the weeks to start to turn it round suggested this was a long term project and not just this season. Calamity at Leigh in the cup. The corporate hospitality shifted from cuisine to pub grub. Jubilee Line was closed more often than not and an unwanted familiarity with the Northern Line was developed. Wes stepped up as captain and it has to be said has been solid and occasionally inspiring throughout.
Some extra signings were required, Kear and Thackray aren't a bad start, but too many dual registration fixes, a year long loan that wasn't which robbed us of a good hooker. Often dominated up front, not quick enough around the ruck and sometimes short of ideas. So we have blooded a number of young players, one or two showing they have bright futures. Other youngsters have held it together probably being over played this year. The back line has been consistent and reliable all year.
A number of games with good wins, number of wins but not convincing and a number of games where we were outclassed by a bigger team who did the basics better and sometimes looked fitter! Another year of hoping next year will be better and we will finally turn the corner.
