Rugby League fans are not stupid eh!!!!! Some are, look at the Wakefield morons last season.
The thing being that, all sport will be treated in the same manor. Should football fans travel in numbers to a game played behind closed doors. All sport will be shut no doubt down. The risk will be deemed as too high.
I might also add that at the point when the shut down occurred. The NRL played games behind closed doors. There were fans watching from various points around the ground.

Quote: northernbloke "And actually the football issue and fans travelling does not bother me in the slightest, if football fans are that stupid then fine let them get on with it. It's not something that would happen in our sport so not a concern'"
These fans could be spreading the virus amongst their families and vulnerable people. Do you not care about that ?

A few stupid wakey fans at a game is nothing like what was suggested re football, very different scenario, unless you are suggesting that 1000s of RL fans would flock to a closed stadium.
NRL no, there were maybe a couple of dozen looking over the fence from there own back gardens not quite the same thing.
As for your suggestion that hordes of football fans spreading the virus, those fans are quite probably same folk that are ignoring the advice already so nothing changes. Besides are the vulnerable not self isolating.
Or are you suggesting sport should never restart?
Where is the evidence that all sport would be shut down if football fans were stupid, govt had already acknowledged they recognise the value of RL I certain societies. They can recognise the difference between football, rugby, golf, tennis, f1 fans.
Besides no games have been played, and no fans have flocked to stand outside closed gates, the fans issue at football is a possible scenario discussed, the other scenario is nothing happens like that and it's fine.

What evidence do you have to support your claim that football fans, in particular, are not observing lockdown ? Seems like you have a rather bigoted view.

I have no evidence, I said probably it was an opinion not a statement of fact. The words used to suggest there would be hordes of football fans going to empty stadiums were "the police have grave concerns" that's actually a statement of concern not a fact, it may not happen
Just for info though in one police area over Easter the greatest number of calloused were for parties and anti social behaviour and yes the demographic of those visited probably backed by opinion. That comes from someone involved in sorting that out.

Why not take discussion another way, lots of Corona viruses never get a vaccine. If they don't find one for covid19 is the suggestion that pro sport will never re start?
If you can't stop something you adapt to live with it, govt has already recognised value of sport to society, how do you adapt in this case? Social distancing in a sports stadium very very hard, even with our numbers at ealing never mind old trafford

There's leaked audio of Bristol Rovers PFA representative advising his team mates the authorities have advised him not to expect fans to be permitted in to EFL matches until January 2021.

Clearly things will be under continual review but with many experts predicting a serious re-occurrence in October/November, this seems plausible.

It's now clear we are only going to see a very minor unlock in June. There's no chance of any big sports crowds being able to attend sports events for a fair while yet.

It's a difficult one for any sport, especially stadium based sports even limited numbers then relies on segregation inside

The govt strategy has to be reviewed early may, so reckon there will be some changes then, talk of golf clubs re opening.
Think even for pro sport behind closes doors testing of players and staff going to be enforced

The governments current thinking has been fairly blatantly flagged by some pet journalists over the weekend. Unless something major changes before the announcement on Thursday, it's going to be a very minor unlock in early June.

Golf may well restart as it is relatively easy to socially distance on the course. The clubhouse is likely to be under strict restrictions or still closed.

So the suggestion is that pro sport will likely resume behind closed doors aka NRL
Don't think anyone is suggesting back to filling old Trafford with fans of any sport. But there is a definite push for some resumption.
How that will effect Broncos then becomes the discussion, second tier although gate incomes not massive for likes of batley, Halifax Swinton without fans are they likely or able to resume? I suspect not, would Toulouse have finances to re locate to UK like catalans considering.
Unlike France I think UK Govt want sport to resume at some level.

Some media outlets are now reporting the Premier League is war gaming the potential for the entire 2020/21 being played behind closed doors.

The lower levels of RL are roughly similar to football's Nationsl League. They have abandoned 2919/20 with several clubs saying closed door games would be financially disastrous. Nearly all the usual outgoings would apply with zero income. Fine if TV money pays the bills but not viable otherwise.

That's the problem, the bulk of RL clubs can't sustain playing behind closed doors with zero income and zero reward.
What seems to be forgotten at the top end without the lower end of the game very quickly the top end is dead.

In todays paper Rugby Union are saying that, large crowds for games cannot happen until a vaccine exists and is widely used in the population. Eighteen months is thought to be the minimum period that it would take.

RU are making an assumption that a vaccine will be found. Wonder where sport goes if that's not the case.
