| Batley arrived with high hopes of a win, but really failed to impress. Yes, the sending off did not help their cause, they failed to score in the second half.
Our error count was cause for concern, but then we defended very well. The kicking gameis still a problem to be addressed, failing to convert so many times is a crime.
Still a good win against early season league leaders.

| Cracking result against the early front runners! Thought the grunt up the middle today was notable, if not breaking tackles at least gaining extra mtrs before going to ground.
A couple of times we did not play sensible rugby, break up the middle in the first half got to batley 40 mtrs instead of taking the tackle and getting quick ptb we tried to offload. Breaking the tackle and getting penalised for not realising tackle was complete. Kicking out on the full. But goal line defence was good. Red card was with just over 25 to go the game went a bit flat after that.
Conversion rate yep worrying but wind was never going to make it easy

| Quote: wire-quin "How did the team play?'"
First 10 mins we started quickly scored two tries, and then went sleep as usual doing daft things like kicking out on the full, until last 10 mins when we scored 2 more tries to go in at half time with a very flattering 20-8. Bately should have been ahead at half time, but they bombed tries and at least in first half their GL defence was shocking, we scored every time we got into their 20.
Second half much better we ground them down, and apart from last 7 or 8 mins when the players relaxed a bit (although GL defence was really good in those mins) I never though we would lose. Sending off did have an impact as it became damage mitigation for them at that point, but we were never in danger 2nd half. Final score should have been better for awful kicking.
However with Sheffield and Fax losing points again all in all good week. This makes the Sheffield game in 2 weeks a huge game for them. If we win game in hand we will have 8 points over them, and if we win at Sheffield that would be 10 points (5 games). I don't seem them catching us if we go 10 points up on them.
Bately having good season but not top 4 quality (they will still do better than last season), Dewsbury also not going to challenge, so if we can knock Sheffield out of the equation, then it will be between us, Fev and Fax for the two spots, and we have a great chance of making it as long as we stay focused and eliminate the errors plus sort our kicking out. We can't miss 10 points vs Bradford in next home game for instance
Geoff

| Good game overall. Wind was tricky, but to only convert 2 from 7 not great. why was Wes not playing, still suspended?
Thought our defence was very good and general go forward from slyney, Offendeal, ioanne and the rest was very good - but we got carried away and our handling was poor at times. Penalty count seemed very heavy against us and we need to learn to play the referrees better. But given other results a good weekend.

"That wasn't a kick, the was a pass with his foot!" Brian Noble making Andrew Voss lose sleep: |
|
| Barthau should not have stayed on after the red card, not that it's the consideration but with the score as it was (26-8 or something I think it was) and how long he was down he should have come off, even if just a precaution.
Kicking still a big problem, but some good line breaks down the middle for a change.
All in all happy with the game.

| Doc went on to look at barthue, apparently no head injury and was assessed on field, cunning ham was on the touchline ready to come on under the green card. Doc was happy so must have been hendos call to keep him on. Interestingly he dropped the ball next pass he got.
I actually missed the hit that floored him.
The penalty count in first half was 5-2 I think, still too many and all silly. We are trying to slow the ptb down which is where we get pinged most. Am still surprised that we have not got open play kicking sorted and that we have only seen 1 40/20 on the park this year. Altho the high spiralling kick that willy put up in the first half that the batley fb dropped was a good executed kick, up into the wind spiralling and dropped in the right area ish.
Let's hope we can do the same to the bulls

| I think Barthau in general is kicking quite well, he was kicking when he got flattended, and i believe williams scored from it, but touch judge missed it because he was so busy flagging the late tackle. agree about the lack of 40:20's but we only seem to have Barthau kicking..............

| No try was scored from that kick, he was bundled over the side before he got chance to ground the ball, ref had seen the late shot as had the touchy and both waited for the advantage before going back to the late shot. Touch judge on far side had called the late shot as well. Matt came on after the ball had been caught and play stopped

| interesting that Henderson also thought it might have been a try and also that he didnt think either the touch judge or referee had ruled it out. Are you sure that it was a definite rule out?

| It obviously was a Def rule out as it was not awarded and they went back to the penalty, the ref actually followed the ball and only went back after play stopped.
If the try had been scored it would have been awarded and the foul play then dealt with

| My point is that Henderson made the same point as me, there was'nt a decision - merely a look at late tackle? It makes no difference to the score or result, but i still felt they didnt rule - Williams would have had a hat-trick as well!

| Not sure what you mean by decision, the ball was dead, no try was scored, what decision was there to make, the foul play dictated what the restart was.
