| Quote: STEVEL "He may well be right unfortunately.......The Quins link up was just another misjudged failure in along list of on and off field cock ups that each hammer another nail in London's coffin..'"
Each to their own, but the first 3 seasons at the Stoop delivered decent crowd figures back to back, we had a landlord who had a workable relationship with Ian Lenegan and we felt like a club.....which leads nicely to
Quote: STEVEL "No, don't agree. For me the nails started going in when the players didn't come in the bar after the game anymore and the fans started to be treated as if we were a bit of a nuisance.'"
As accurate a post as you will find on this or any forum. We were London......nobody north of Watford Liked us and we didn't care, because the fans and the players got together after a game to chew the fat. Whether that was sharing 6 VB's with Rusty in Stripes bar or my Mrs getting a hug (many hugs in fact) from HP in the smaller bar at the stoop, we belonged and we accepted some hammerings.
Our name didn't matter, nor what colours we wore. We were together and there is only one person who I believe can be held to account for the demise of the club. Unfortunately, without him, there's probably be no club either.
Either way, Rupe1 wasn't right other than the outcome. His reasoning was always flawed and he never offered viable solutions.
I repeat, moving to Twickenham and being Harlequins Rugby League didn't bring this club to its current low.

| Quote: rupe1 "Dear all,
Its been a while hasn't it.
I well remember the magical night in 1997 when we beat the Brisbane Broncos with an incredible team and an amazing coach. I can recall many messages I wrote along the lines that if only the club had the vision to again employ a coach with the charisma of a Tony Currie and players with the skill and heart of Gill, Edwards, Bawden, Beasley et al then a vibrant Superleague club was possible.
Instead we had to suffer the likes of Tony Rea, Jon Wells, Steve Hall et al. I well remember the dogs abuse I received on here when I posted that the London Broncos would end up playing in front of sub 2000 crowds.
Well here we all are in the Championship playing in front of sub 1000 crowds. Here we are with a full time professional club losing to Whitehaven and other part time outfits! Its almost beyond a joke now. Yet did any of you who went to Whitehaven turn around and question any of the directors and management there or did you still clap the players off?
I well remember the dogs abuse I received when I wrote that it was you the fans fault for tolerating the utter detritus dished up on the field year after year. I could not understand why people would for example clap Jon Wells off the field game after game despite him going the whole of the 2009 season without scoring a try!. There were other players just as bad yet they were clapped off no matter what.
If people had stood with me and condemned the woeful players and management then this wouldn't have happened. Unconditional support is not support but cheerleading.
Call me all the names under the sun but -
I told you so.
I was right.'"
I must have been really drunk, 'cos I thought we lost to Brisbane. Still, I'm sure you're right. After all, you've said so yourself

I always felt that was a massive missed opportunity, and a good example of how the people running the game only ever paid lip service to the "we need a club in London" argument.
It was obvious that our first home game would draw a lot of curious RU fans, and what we really needed was a good competitive game to really advertise the sport. And so they gave us... St Helens, who were beating anything put in front of them at the time. Lo and behold, one thrashing later and most of those RU fans never came back. Stuff the RFL or SL giving us money, a simple thing like letting us pick our opposition for that first game could have worked wonders.
I remember thinking at full time that all the possibilities had just been destroyed in 80 minutes. Later of course we got... well we all know what happened.

| Dead right Perry. We HAD to be competitive that day and weren't. I've no idea whose decision it was that we should play Saints but surely Lenegan must have had the chance to say no.

The result that day wasn't great, but as usual, there was no plan B to get any interested Union fans back. Our first 2 wins at the Stoop were against French opposition and in hindsight (great stuff) they're the games we should have targeted your average jingoistic Union fans to.

| In answer to the question, yes. As I always do if I think at least one of them has put an effort in.

Trouble is by then they would already have heard from the fans at the Saints game that it wasn't worth going to see the RL. We didn't need to win that first game it just needed to be competitive.

That has to be the most spineless comment I have ever read on the internet.
Your words sum up exactly why the London Broncos culture of absolute woefulness has been allowed to continue.
You are truly saying that even if just one player out of an entire rugby league team puts an effort in you will still clap the players off the field. Its absolutely stupefying.

| Living in a dream world, union fans are union fans and what ever the result or performance was we likely to tempt less than a handful to turn to what to them is the darkside. Saying that I think the link up with harlequins was not a bad thing and the stadium is probably the best for any code of rugby we could have hoped for in london. But too much was made of trying to smash the 2 clubs into one entity.

| Rude you still have not answered the question, do you still go to games.
Are you suggesting that the players get booed off the pitch every time they lose? It's a personal choice, if you have been entertained and watched a player put the effort in then why not clap them off the pitch.
So another question, what have you done or more to the point what are you able to actually do to change the situation? If your answer is to no longer come and watch, well done, but in my opinion that is just adding to the problem, but it's yr choice.
Don't forget had Mr Hughes pulled his money then this discussion would not be happening as we would just be a failed club in the history books.
