The knock on at the PTB was an incorrect PTB kicking it forward, trying to be too quick
Penalties, 3 at PTB was actually not as bad as I was expecting after the chat last week. Difficult to make that much of a comment as to opinions on hands in or not as [sizeyou are a fair distance from the play at New River,[/size ....'"
Priceless Micky, given that you were replying to gutters. icon_biggrin.gif

I thought the ref (Jamie Bloem according to the programme) was OK today. Mind you it was a much slower game than much of the stuff you see in SL but our defence was better than I've witnessed in years although in the last 20 minutes it was all academy players on the pitch. Spilling the ball as much as we did was my biggest bugbear coming out of this game.

Given that the Broncos were mainly fringe 1st grade and U19s I thought they should be pretty pleased with how they went today. I thought it would be rather closer based on how Skolars went against Wigan 9 days before. Skolars were fairly solid if lacking in creativity, but Broncos defended well, especially against the big forwards, and showed good pace and footwork. I thought Oliver Thomas was excellent in organising the team and Macani and Morris (who always plays well against Skolars) were always dangerous.

Thomas was excellent, assured and cool, a good pass, a good kicking game and backed up well for his try. Macani looks back to his best and I was impressed with Dwyer at hooker who is on loan form Warrington. Broncos were hungry and Mr Grima has a good pool of talent to work with.

agree totally, and Oscar Thomas was excellent, very good kicking game, much better than Catalan a week earlier. Overall a good performance, though the pace of the game and the lack of ideas from Skolars makes it difficult to judge. some good going forward. Main issues, some sloppy panicky passing - gave away one interception for a try and Skolars could, should have had two more. And play of the ball - we give away far too may penalties for interfering/laying on - a recurring theme for the last few years. Gutterfax is right, forget the standard of referees, if we get a reputation we are likely to be penalised heavily esp. away from home and that is likely to cost us.

but a good runout, some smart plays and given a basically under 19 team pretty impressive all round. i think dewsbury will be an interesting test, but feeling hopeful! (sorry Gutters i know optimism isnt allowed. Are we getting new away shirts? Last years look like hand me downs from HULL FC circa 1966................................... (washed out)

Bronc, all I was saying was that I am the first to have a go at the refs from the terraces, but in reality sitting in the stand its difficult to make a real comment. Ref saw hands in therefore their were hands in. As I said we were penalised 3 times for hands in or holding down, actually that does not worry me, most teams will test the ref early doors to see what they can get away with.
From what I could see 2 knock on calls were interesting, one the ball came out in a gang tackle in a way that looked like it was stripped, another was dropped at the PTB again looked like hands in. BUT like I say you are sat so far away from the play and the ref is 10mtrs away so Jamie B made the right call. It is the ball carriers responsibility to keep hold of the thing. Even with those taken into account if you ignored em. that would make 7 dropped ball during the game.
Just for interest the other penalties were 3 offside 2 ball steal one for continuing the tackle after held call and dragging player in to touch, and 1 that I could not make out the signal. Think it was a total of 10 which is too many.

On Twitter (about 3 days ago) club indicated that no date for a launch of the new away kit and hoped to play most of games in the home kit. I initially took that as no away kit but more likely recognition the away one might not sell as well.

I bought 2 shirts at the Bradford game. There were plenty of both left. Did the away shirt on show at the skolars have all this years sponsors on iy?

No. Just a number on the back and no trace of last years sponsors. Probably a work-in-progress jersey as the new kit should be released by the end of next week.
