Come all without, come all within, we're London Broncos not the H********s!:16679.jpg |

Sad to say I have to agree, felt like coming away from a funeral on Saturday and after the Wigan game. In fact I've come away from funerals in a more cheerful frame of mind than I have from Broncos games lately. Funnily enough I bought a new dark suit recently, looks like I'll have a chance to wear it soon!

Think you may have hit on an idea for the last home game. Men (and women) in black! Or at least mourning suits.

The poster was talking about funding a 'community stadium' in the 198os. Forgive the shorthand but the Odsal 'leaseback' was an entirely different matter concerning an existing RL stadium.

Not quite sure that is entirely correct. The Rugby League I believe once owned Taff Vale Park in Pontypridd in the early 1920's before selling it to a Greyhound Racing Association in 1927. Also in 1950 the Rugby League took over the lease of Brewery Field in Bridgend to ensure the club there continued and retained that lease till 1957. In addition Jenner Park in Barry was once owned by the Welsh Rugby League (1949?). So perhaps there is some historical precedence in non-heartland areas.
Just wish there was a clear strategy.

In answer to the op. i think not. I think Al-Jazeera will buy the Broncos. The following article shows their interest in rugby league.

No brainer for me, a TV company who are investing in rugby league, buying a team in LONDON.

There has been.....the current CEO has butchered the club and a few northern clubs will plough in to pick the best meat off the bones, leaving the scraps for the Skolars and lower division clubs.
I am very angry, because I still say with a lot of hard work it could have been oh so different. The RFL are equally to blame for not letting IL keep his shareholding in the club in 2007/08.....the ARL had no issues with News Limited owning majority shareholdings in expansion clubs outside NSW.
Very very short sighted of them.....because IL would never have stood for any of the dross dished up by Blanchard or Gus and he would never have promoted Powell!

| As a Londoner who has moved up north it really pains me to see what has become of the Broncos. I don't have the answers but two things which would make sense to me if it's not too late are (a) to reach out and try and get a groundshare arrangement with Saracens RFU (which might or might not be tricky given their Wigan links) and (b) revert to the red/blue/yellow kit of the late 90's. Obviously the kit only means so much but as much as London has a RL heritage to go "retro" on that was its best time and it could rekindle some of the memories of supporters from that time. The groundshare would make sense to me for several reasons - geographically it's in a populated part of London not all that far from both Hemel Hempstead and London Skolars, it's an all-weather pitch not otherwise being used for much of the summer and the Saracens ethos is less stuffy and old school rugby union than Harlequins or elsewhere in south west London - indeed it was modelled by Peter Deakin.

| Saracens only have permission from the council to play so many games there, was the only way they could get it built. Groundsharing there is a non-starter.

| As angry as I am with how the club is currently being run, forcing them to deal with Barnet Council is one punishment too far.
Besides if you think the atmosphere is flat at the Stoop, wait until you hear it at a half converted athletics stadium. As a disgruntled BFC fan, trust me, the Hive is a much better bet.

| Ok, wasn't aware of the planning issue, and it's too late anyway, but if you could have your time again and go back 10-15 years I do think that there was scope for a London RL team to be developed in tandem with Saracens. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, I would love London to survive and those of you who have maintained your support are heroes

Thanks for the good wishes. I don't see any reason why we'd regret not joining up with Saracens when we had such a 'joyous' link up with Quins in the meantime! In truth I think staying away from Union is the one thing we've learned from all this. 10 to 15 years ago Saracens were in no position to even think about owning their own ground. They were exiled in Watford as very minor tenants of Watford FC. RU wasn't the dominant beast is has since become hence why so many clubs left the city borders. I would imagine that had we have linked up with them then we'd have been swiftly brushed aside once RU's rise too hold.
What it might have done though is steered Saracens away from Barnet (a borough they have no historical link with) and forced the vilest council on the planet to pay some attention to finding a home for the loyal 120+ year old Football Club. And so, for that perhaps, I have some regret.

Not on his own he hasn't. It's been a catalogue of poor decisions by CEOs and probably the Board as well as coaches. Though I would point out you state earlier in this thread 'Personally I don't blame any individuals'.
