| Quote: markrammond "The point I made Dave is that Brian inherited a side who finished 5th and made the Grand Final year after year and he has maintained the club at more or less exactly the same standard as when he found it.
I'd suggest that Brian Mac and Brian McClennan have both done very well out of the side that Tony Smith built.
Whilst Brian has promoted from within the clubs ranks players like Kallum Watkins was already highly regarded prior to his appointment whilst Stevie Ward was featured in Rugby League World several seasons ago as a potential Great Britain Captain and has been with Leeds for many years as you would know. They would have been successful regardless of who the Head Coach was.
He's done well with Hardaker, Clarkson, the German student centre Keinhorst and one or two others who were more unexpected. I consider a great Coach to get more out of the player than what he has showed in the past and with these guys this is definitely the case.
But his senior signings have not been successful and he's already released several promising forwards like Pitts and Amor and given the old veterans new deals - the average age of the seventeen is greater than when he arrived and yet I see it implied within his mandate to build for the future rather than be signing more Richard Moores, Darrell Griffins and their like.
He's a very lucky coach who can get squeeze a lot out of what he has, the problem is there is nothing left after you do nothing but squeeze.
I just remember him leaving our club in a very sorry state indeed with a 20% win record over his last 40 games and mainly dross in the ranks and poor coaches and found him to be pretty rude and yes I don't like him particularly, well it would be fairer to say I don't mind him, because I like Leeds as a club. Not enough to wear their shirt at the Stoop but reasonably!
His record in the regular rounds of Super League must be the worst in the past 10 years at Leeds but what a one off coach he is proving to be. In semi final football mainly.'"
ask the leeds fans if they would swop another grand final win for playing well during the season and ending up with nothing like wigan and you say hes lucky but his squad isnt as good as wigans or warringtons and on par with saints yet hes the one getting to CC and GF every year you just seem to come across very bitter

Isn't that the measure of a good coach?
He must be given credit for what he is achieving. I must admit to being sceptical but with a core of class players in his team he has excelled.
Smith left years ago. That isnt a factor in the current team. (Watch Wigan drop of next year when the McGuire effect erodes) That fat pie eating gob Sh*te's "brawn without brain" approach will be found wanting next year.

| I've confessed before to being a bit of a closet Wigan fan, but I'm so pleased that whingeing Wain got his come-uppance on this occasion, especially after BMcD showed a measure of dignity at the club-call press conference.

I thought Lenegan's comments were embarrassing and pleased to see the smug fool shut up.

Sinfield is an average player who never turns up for England.
Sean O'Loughlin by plenty.

| McDermott inherited a team of Stars and in many games at first they did not perform! until I think he let them play the way the knew and not his method.
The Farce about the game is a team that finishes in the position Leeds did being Super League Champions again, tell me another sports where this happens?
Pleased for Kev Sinfield, though he does not know what to do with his Super League Rings now? last years went to his Dad, this year to his Brother. Good on Ya Kev!

I've always felt that, but then some other people say they like it that way, or that's how it's always been in rugby league and I should stick to watching football etc.
It may be a great achievement to twice win the Grand Final from 5th place, but for me it's more akin to that Hull Challenge Cup win under John Kear, when they knocked out all the top league sides to win it. You can be little better than mediocre for 27 league matches, then just win a few one-off games and be crowned champions.
Wigan and Warrington have both been far more consistently excellent over the past two years. During Mc Dermott's two seasons at Leeds they must have lost as many matches as in the previous four seasons, when they were often winning the Grand Finals too.
Ove the past two years Leeds have simply sustained their long run of success, but via a more difficult route because their overall standards throughout the season have slipped.

| Leeds as Grand Final winners 5 times in the past 6 years (and league leaders only once in those 6 years) is an achievement no matter where they were at the end of the regular season. The RFL must shorten the play offs though to a top 5 or less and play over 2 weekends.

Why is it a farce? It's the way rugby league works and has done, with variations to the play-off format, for many years - yes, well before Superleague.
As for another sports, I'd suggest that you do your own research if you really want to know, but there are plenty of competitions worldwide which use a play-off system to determine the champions.

Si it's not a Farce if Rugby Does it? MMmm before Super League, I think you will find that the Champions were more accepted as the League Leaders and were recognised in a much better way than now. Still think it should be the Sky Sports Knockout Cup, it's only a money making exercise and with the attendances currently that must be getting tight.

This claim that Sky installed the play offs is laughable - of course they like it but the sport wanted to return to a play off system and it was the sport's decision to put it in place - just look back to the discussion of its installation in advance of the 98 season.
