| Quote: Halfdan of t'wide embrace "If we drop down a division where will our players come from? Most of the current team would be off (we couldn't afford them and they would want to stay pro anyway.) That would leave us with a few who can't seal other deals and a lot of kids. We'll have no experience in key positions, we'll get trashed week in week out and probably destroy the genuinely promising players we have coming through our youth system. We won't be able to bring in experienced northern lads to assist either, who on earth is going to sign a one or two year part time contract down here when they can sign for a team a few miles down the road?
It's clear there are issues but I really don't see a future for a London team at Championship level.'"

| Good article. Rob hits the nail on the head with this commentTo get more crowds in London, we have to get a winning side.[/i
We can run promotions, change the name, move ground whatever you like but we will be ing in the wind until we have a team that is worth watching by those beyond the hardcore fans.

If we had a regular top 4 side plenty of home wins, I reckon a lot of the union lot would lik to see what the fuss was all about. Can dream

I think our own ground is an aim that should be one that is written down, we can't plan to tenants of anyone forever. It maybe a ground-share with another rugby club or football club but it should be an aim. Everybody sharing the real estate, making a profit. Year round use is what cricket, football and rugby union clubs seem to say keeps their businesses going.
Could be that it is a marriage of convenience as Harlequin F.C. have a year round revenue and we have a home. Were we to get a sponsor on the shirt on an investor, who could also put their name on the shirt then we can say goodbye to the Stoop and do something that is ours.
Remember it was a Man Utd vs Real Madrid game that convinced Roman Abramovich to become interested in English football and purchasing Chelsea a few months later. So get it out there that London is available and at a fraction of the cost of even a lower league football club. Hopefully someone with a little money will get to the CCF, GF or the games at Wembley in the Four Nations.
The Stoop is our home at the minute, and will be until we move on up, or step off.
The crowds will come not because of names, because the potential fans don't know the names, it's about product. The best product will sell no matter where you are. We have pulled in decent crowds at the Stoop and it would have been interesting to see what might have happened if we had stayed close to the top of the league. The territory don't mean sh$t if the product is weak.
We are Harlequins RL until we decide otherwise, and it is either going to be for a good reason for rugby league in London or for a very bad reason.

"We are working hard to get a further investment of half a million, either from new investors or a new sponsor."
Any mileage in adding a company name to Harlequins RL. NEC Harlequins, Vodafone Warriors, HSBC Warratahs, RaboDirect Melbourne Rebels, etc.
Maybe Virgin Harlequins as they were the last ones to pay £500k to put their names on our shirts. Or maybe the Harlequin Virgins would be the more tongue in cheek one.

| Drop a division? Then we cease to exist as the flagship southern club in SL.
In which case there's no point in our continued existence.
Let's hope David Hughes doesn't share this line of thought.

Interesting to read that Simon Hughes article again. Like the comment that [iPeople go to sport for the three A's - ability, affinity and atmosphere[/i.

What a strange thing to say. A strong, well supported RL club in London in the Championship is great for the game. As an RL fan first and foremost I can see that. Do you think there's no point in Leigh, Halifax, Toulouse, Sheffield?? Very arrogant opinion, and it seems not just from you. I have a lot of respect for these clubs and would be proud to be a strong club in their division. SL is obviously my preference, but Im sick of pretending we're a SL club. We aren't in any way apart from on paper.

| Quote: Dave Lister "The clubs plan A is a name change and a stadium move? What evidence do you have to support that claim?
Why on earth do you think effectively turning into London Skolars is a good idea?'"
Hughes, Lewis and Mackay have all but said it will happen if we can find a new stadium. The Quins thing clearly isn't working for them and they see our future elsewhere. And since when do the Skolars have 1000+ season ticket holders? If we could keep these fans on board by selling a 3-5 year vision we could be a very strong championship club, which Skolars unfortunately aren't yet. Also a smaller stadium doesnt mean a dump like the New River either.

| I plan on winning the quad rollover on the euro millions one day he's my plan
Build a stadium to North west London on some brown field site 10k capacity.
Move Sarcacens in, let both clubs have their on identity.
Charge £5 a ticket for first 3 seasons, under 10's free with an adult, 11-17 £1
Buy up any billboard space within 3 miles, hammer the local papers with ads.
Have a permanent sports bar with cheap booze.
Free travel to away games to anyone that has a match ticket.
It's a vision folks, just need to win now.

I'm looking at this from a SL perspective. No London club in SL means that it's down to a dozen M62 clubs, one shaky M56 club and one club in the south of France. Not very Super is it?

| so, this season so far we have beaten 2 of the top teams in the SL over the last few years
we have run the red hot team so far right to the line and got a point
yep we have had some poop results!
But we have the stadium! Like the name or not, and this if from a bloke that has never yet been able to shout "come on the quins" I am the gobby one that sticks to come on London, even confused me when we played Skolars
We do have a team that can compete with any club on the right day
We confusingly are still able to operate as a viable business thanks to our backers!! (dont know how he can afford it)
so with the way the Franchise sytem works and the way the RFL want SUPER LEAGUE to operate then we have every right to maintain our place
As for a ground move AGAIN, there was uproar and whinging when Watford was mentioned, so where else we gonna go?
Building a new stadium is not easy, ask Cas! Salford! Saints!!!!, not forgetting they have there old stadiums to use as collateral we dont!!
I Like the stoop, the other options, Brentford!! good community ground but good god got to be a real fire risk
Charlton!!! such easy access!!!!!! arff arffff
Bottom line is we need to start winning games!!! does not matter what we are called what colours we play in or where we play, if we are losing then unless yr mad or hardcore supporter then there will be other draws on a Fri/Sat night or sat afternoon

| Right, please don't slate me for this, i'm not a flatcapper, I want London RL to be a huge success to shut people up.
I heard on the radio that the Japanese olympic squad were using facilities at a soon to be built sports village 30 mins from the Olympic Stadium. I can't for the life of me remember where it was, but it definately wasn't a place with a football team yet was a town big enough that I have heard of it! Does anyone know anything about it and if it would be a viable option for you (you'll aways be London Broncos to me)
