18821_1298880800.jpg
I've always thought of McGuire as a good player, and I wouldn't normally wish injury on any player, but there was a certain hint of poetic justice to that.
Another classic:
You forgot to take off the "Saints Reduction Factor" when calculating the ban.
Standard suspension / Saints Reduction Factor = Actual ban for Saints player.
Therefore (2 / 3) = 0.666
0.666 < 1 therefore actual ban equals "less than 1 match".
Therefore ZERO.
| You have my sympathy, we had Child last week and he isn't good enough at the moment. He was very inconsistent on Monday for us against Crusaders.
To penalise your player for incorrect PTB and then allow Saints first try was ridiculous. That's ignoring the glaring forward pass in the build up! We've had him twice this year, I hope we don't get him again!!

I don't honestly see how anyone could say for certain that the Cunningham-Eastmond pass was forward? They were so close together when the pass happened that I couldn't tell and I even slowed down the Sky coverage to look hard.
The first try was a mile forward, though, and Wheeler didn't play the ball right either. It should never have been allowed. Our 'forward' try against Wigan was nowhere near as forward as that one.
However, as a Saints fan, I aint complaining! I had a feeling that Quins would hit us hard, what with their previous performance and also having Purdham back. I'm happy to take the rub of the green/poor decision on this one. We've probably played our get out of jail card now.

| comment that the TJ's and the ref missed a knock on and fwd pass, dont forget the TJ's can only advise the ref if they have seen in infringement, the ref does not have to act on there comments as he may see it from a different angle and decide that he did not agree
The only decisions the TJ actually make is oin a conversion r penalty and if the ball is in touch, the rest they pass the message on, and usually these days they are miked up and its down to the ref to bl;ow his whistle or not

Tbh the score does not really mean a lot to me other than it would be nice to see the Quins get a break for once this season, on the other hand who other than Saints are gonna stop that arrogant lot from Leeds. I only posted because i thought you were being unjustly critisised by DL for expressing your view and were deserving better than what you received from somebody what should know better than let bitterness overcome him.

Thank you. It's appreciated.
I do hope Quins have turned a corner and that the season will improve from now on in.

| My own view is that Child was directly responsible for 12 of St. Helens' points last night. Allowing the first try was an absolute disgraceful decision - especially as not long before we'd been pinged for an incorrect play-the-ball. It was even bizarre when he went to the video ref to check a try which was eventually (correctly) disallowed when the Saints player (Meli?) put a foot in touch directly infront of the touch judge who raised his flag.
To say I've been more impressed with "Uncle Albert" refereeing this season is a clear indicator of how poor Child was.

When he's not got his fishing rod out he can sometimes make sense, otherwise do what we do and ignore him

| Childs changed the momentum of the game when he gave the LMS decision. He was then inconsistent with his decision leading up to the first Saints try. He said he had warned LMS 4 times before -at what point does it become an offence and what offences deserve 4 warnings?
I also struggle with the holding down decisions-Do they give them in the context of the game they are reffing or do they give them in the context of the wider game- if so teams like Wigan and Hudds would be penalised hugely each game if we get penalised as much as we and Sainst were yesterday.

| Child made 2 game changing errors in awarding two St Helens tries from forward passes (of which one was blatant) and the knock on near his line from Cunningham was yet another decision against the Quins. I am struggling to think of anything we got bar a couple of James Roby hoilding down penalties.
We can enjoy the games from now on without rancour as we would need a minimum of 12 wins from the last 18 games to make the play-offs, which is very unlikely, so we may as well throw the ball around for the season and be entertained, rather than go back to the draining RL we have played prior to today. After all Child and Uncle Albert won't be here every week with the 'Randomizer' and at least we aren't that dumb lot from Huddersfield who can be heard shouting 'Forward' on every play.

| To be fair, Child warned LMS at least four times (and a number of other players in the first half, on both sides), before warning him for the "last time" and telling him at scrum time - and LMS still didn't put his foot any where near the ball when he was penalised.
Obviously that doesn't make up for the forward pass that was at least three yards forward or the subsequent play the ball.
Other than that I though he was OK.
It would be easier to be critical if we'd lost by one score, which would have happened had LMS passed the ball to Gale in the second half instead of taking the tackle two on one with the full back.
