Mate of mine goes for the Storm so he told me. I think he is coming along to the game anyway. But thats only because he knows Bellyache. Looking at the link someone else provided further down the page it looks like he got it right about Smith and Slater. I personally can't see Inglis getting a go either.

Someone else on the thread asked why no Aussies or Kiwis come and watch London, I cant speak for them all but would you Poms go and watch A League soccer if you came to Australia?

That's a bit different Neil, the A League is probably about the 50th strongest football league in the world, where as the Super League is the second best Rugby League competition in the world. But to answer your question, the poms probably would go and watch because they love soccer. Remember the old Northern Spirit team, half their supporters were English! Perth Glory used to be like that too, and it's probably still the same now.

I think you've bought the Gus Gould line too much regarding Super League being a rubbish competition. It's pretty obvious that Gus watches the Super League with Aussie blinkers on (if he in fact even watches it????)

The fact is it's a decent standard if Rugby League, and the top half a dozen teams would more than hold their own in the NRL. Times have changed since 1997 when the English Super League was a rubbish standard, the southern hemisphere teams destroyed them in the World Club Challenge. If you repeated that event now, the Super League teams would win 30-40% of games in my opinion, though Quins would undoubtedly struggle on current form.

I've been here for a two and a half years and been to about every second Quins game. The fact is if you are a Rugby League fan you'll get down there and enjoy it, because after all it is Rugby League.

Are you an Aussie? where are you living now?

It's right what you say about Gussie, but you have to admit he does know his footy. I'll be honest I don't really know enough about the game over here to comment, it seldom gets a mention back home and it's not that popular here in London from what I've seen.

Im not trying to put shiit on the British game but you have to agree it's still the place where the likes of Craig Fitzgibbon come for a pension!

Neil,

I think Super League is rubbish and will continue to be while they throw money at average imports and see them as 'stars' of the game.

But I continue to come out to the stoop because, heck its still the second best competiton going around, the fans are great and the interaction is awesome (get to a game up north in a NRL jersey, you'll chat all day.... Did you now Brent Webb is the worlds best fullback icon_wink.gif beers are cheap, and you can yell at the touchie and he hears every word.

Its a good day out, just give it a go.

I certainly would. Not everyone watches solely elite level sport. There are teams in the Third and Fourth Divisions of English football pulling crowds of 10,000-20,000 or more. I think most English football fans would at least give the A League a go; take in one or two games to see what it's like. I'm sure a sizeable minority of A League supporters are expats.

I reckon if I was Down Under I'd give it a go, especially if the local team had a few former Premier League or SPL names in .

Mate of mine is exiled in NZ and he goes to A League games from time to time at Wellington, and although the standard is pretty poor (he's a Wednesday fan so he's used to it!) for a tenner you get food, 2 free drinks, free bus to the ground and a match ticket! His words 'not a bad cheap night out for an expat - except for all the moaning scousers!'

So what if QRL did a similar offer - pie and chips, 2 pints and a bus from Twickenham plus a match ticket for £10. Publicise it round the Walkabouts etc.. reckon there'd be any Aussie / NZ expat takers? Or run a bus from one of the Walkabouts in town? Seems going out to the wilds of Twickenham under their own steam is putting some off!

The offer of 2 pints, a bus from Twickenham and a ticket to the game for £10 is a good offer. I cant see the club going for that one though.

You can keep your pie and chips though!!!!

You are going into too much detail. it was me that asked you for more feedback on why if you "love your footy" you don't come and watch it here. I would watch a lot of games in Australia not just the elite NRL. Why? Because I also love footy and I love the interaction with other fans.

The OP has started a thread on the VT suggesting ways in which to improve the "game" and the WCC......this is before he has set foot inside a ground to watch RL over here icon_rolleyes.gif
Because the Aussie Public blah blah blah.......well guess what! You jumped on the plane...nobody held a gun to your head and flew over here. Please don't tell me you went through 5 airline meals and 36 hours of discomfort just to post observations that you could have done from back home? Get down to the stoop...you never know, you might enjoy it.
