Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| What Mr Lewis doesn't understand is that people dont just go to watch a sterile match played in fairly quiet souless stadiums , especially the larger newish ones where everybody has to sit down , he might think it is wonderful having a bite to eat in the corporate , then sitting in the best seats , before chatting about the match afterwards with the directors and coaches
But that isn't what most people want or are willing to pay for , ' fans ' , those that go to the majority of matches played at the home of the club they support want atmosphere and a feeling of belonging , those things are easier produced if there is a spread of fans both home and away all round a stadium , they are allowed and encouraged to produce noise with singing and chants , even bloody drums and horns on occaision
Yes a competitive team is vital , but that is beyond the control of the club , all clubs have to work on the principle that they have to actually increase their clubs fan base with a losing team on the pitch
Essentially you have to get people into the stadium by hook or by crook , then make the experience good enjoyable enough for them to return , I'd say giving out free [ or almost free ] tickets is the only way you are ever going to achieve it , it will take many years and cost a lot of money

| Played for you lot in 06/07, loaned from another SL Club, had 7 games. Hated it, no atmosphere. Retired 18 months ago and now with the Met, might catch a couple of games, but would rather travel North for my fix

Some players who have played for us "get it"...others don't. Good Luck in the Met...I see the cockney shilling is OK, but not the RL

| Its the only one that was rct, once I've done my two years, will aim to get back to Leeds. You get a better class of criminal up North.

But there are a lot of us Up North who would agree. We think it is important that Quins exist, are in Superleague and thrive. But we also recognise what a tough environment London is to survive in as a minority sport.
Wishing you well and hoping you can get some good home wins to back up the marketing efforts (which I rather like).

Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

| If you run Richard Lewis's staement through the b*llsh*t remover (I'm warming it up for the forthcoming election) he doesn't actually say anything. If he was giving an interview on GMR he'd probably say that Salford were important to SL.

| I think Lewis is right, we are important. The "Harlequins" brand may not last but a RL team in London will survive.
We see these northerners saying that after 30 years we can't attract a crowd but what about the teams up north who have been around a hundred years and only attract a few hundred fans? Looking at the Championship only Widnes (IMO) would have crowds better then ours if they were allowed in Super League, Leigh and Halifax may get similar crowds but there really is no sense in dropping Quins from Super League.
I've voiced this from day one, the name "Harlequins" was never going to work. The name "Harlequins" is a Union brand and Southerners and in fact all UK people with a slight interest in sport is going to say Harlequins is a RU team and the vast majority aren't going to understand about the RL team. The name "London Quins" would have given us our own seperate identity but kept a part of Harlequins' identity.
Another thing is the shirt, up until last year a Harlequins RL shirt wasn't identifiable until you got really close to it and saw the "RL" bit stitched in underneath the badge. At least now we have our own seperate badge but I think a all black shirt with the pastel colours as trims on the arms and down the side of the shirt would provide us with a seperate identity from the typical Harlequins colours.
