| 5 games into our 13 home matches this year and we are 6,453 down on attendances. (nearly 1,300 a game)
Wigan - 4,158
Warrington -416
Hull FC -200
Catalan -611
HKR - 1,068
Now, lots of possible reasons for this and to be fair, last years goons figure was littered with freebies, so in real terms, we seem to be losing 500 a game on average.
I would think that a fair amount of these are away fans who aren't coming down due to the new long distance games (France and Wales) as well as a smattering of stay away londoners.
The problem we have is that we don't (in most cases) know who these fans are. I believe that we need to proactively canvas fans for their details at games. Offer a box for 10 as a prize, free tickets, away coach fare paid or something, in exchange for their details. Then we need to ask them for feedback and suggestions.
Simply put, the 3 games against Wire, FC and Wigan in 2005 brought us 3,219 more fans (£32k in ticket revenue alone) and as we are now in our 4th year as QRL.....we really need to address this decline before it becomes terminal.
I believe that HKR brought 250 less yesterday than last year, so where have the other 750 fans from last year gone If we were to lose another 750 next year, and HKR bring 250 less again, we will be averaging 2,000 a game by the end of 2010

| Quote: sandy "I was in the north stand but had friends who went in the east stand (they'd paid at the ticket office), they took up their seats in the second block in from the north end as most rovers fans in the east stand did, but I have to say both blocks at the north end of the east stand were practically empty so I can't see any problems with people sitting in other peoples seats. whilst not condoning rudeness, If i'd plonked myself down and was surrounded by empty seats all around and someone came up and demanded I move because those specific chairs were theirs I'd be pretty ruffled also, (apologies if this was not your specific situation)'"
And that's exactly what happened, as I was the one that moved ! ! !
Basically, we turned up at the ground 2 hours before kick off, paid through the turnstyles, and sat in the main stand to watch the reserve match. At no point did any club official state that there were reserved seating anywhere, and I specifically checked to see if any of the seats had "reserved" stickers on them. All seats were unreserved, and the stand was almost empty.
45 minutes before kick off, the main stand (which I presume holds about 4000) had about 100 fans in it, and this old git with his howling witch of a wife, can up to us, shouting, screaming and demanding that we moved.
Now, dont get me wrong, if we were sat in somebodys season ticket seat, I would happily move, I did ask him what seat was his and he said "all of them". This was clearly not the case, so we just moved 10 seats toward the half way line.
He then ran over to blab to the steward (honestly, it was like watching a child in the playground running to teacher ! ). When the steward came, he asked to see our ticket which confirmed we were in the correct stand, he then asked us to move a few blocks, as he did not want this bloke causing trouble. We happily obliged and moved, and had a chat with the steward about the how out of order and rude the old git was.
In 25 years of attending hundreds of away matches, I have never been in a situation like this, and this mindless idiot and his howling baboon of a wife, has, in my book, tarnished the reputation of your club. He acted in an unofficial capacity, and had no authority to demand where other supporters sat.
In consequence, I will certainly reconsider driving a 500 mile round trip to attend another Quins match again.

Sorry you had a bad experience and that you will be thinking hard before returning. I fully appreciate the ticketing at the stoop needs sorting out and, without defending this fellow or his good lady wife you were not the problem......it has just become a bit of an issue down here with "some" ST holders and the clubs seating arrangements for 2009.
I on the other hand am looking forward to my first trip to Caravan Park...and I don't care where I stand/sit as long as we get revenge for yesterday.

| I too sat amongst your home support yesterday, I got my ticket from your ticket office, as I enjoy watching from the side on and not the away behind the sticks end. When I got the ticket I was only asked what price I wished to pay as it went up the closer to the centre of the stand. Having my away HKR top on the young lady didnt appear to be bothered only pointing out the increased prices.
As to vocal I thought you sounded loud the first half, but your right tin roof helps away fans.
I didnt have any probs with home Fans sat very near too them, just good natured banter, so Thanks for an enjoyable day out, and I shall be there next season.

The volunteers do actively canvas fans, we are at the Quins stand for 2 hours before kick off until 15 minutes before kick off. We do the best we can with relatively few pre game volunteers. We collect names, address's, phone numbers, email address etc etc and then I spend time in the office adding them to the data base. We already have a hospitality box for the 10 winners at the end of the season for the fans who give their information at the stand. This is also advertised at the stand. The reason we stop 15 minutes before kick off is due to the fact we are all volunteers who have purchased season tickets and whilst we want to help the club as much as possible at the end of the day we are volunteers and our main reason for being there is to watch the game.
If anyone would like to volunteer help on a match day it would be really appreciated, we have raffle tickets to sell, try sponsorship, junior player sponsorship, data collection etc etc.

I think you are right with your estimate of 500 ish, sadly though I think this probably includes more that a smatering of 'stay away londoners'. The club seems to be making a good job of alianating fans, for one reason and another, probably since returning to the stoop.
As was stated on another thread somewhere, the club should be actively targeting these former season ticket holders and others, that no longer attend.
Obviously those that turn up on the gate and pay cash cannot be tracked other than by the means suggested by getting them to fill out forms for competitions etc.
But the club should have data (including from Bronco's days) on those that have held season tickets and those that have purchased online, over the phone etc.
These 'lapsed' supporters would seem an obvious target to try and get to return, some never will of course but I would imagine the reasons are many and with a bit of cujouling many would.
Of course the data from the Broncos days may not have been 'uploaded' into the current CRM system (if they have one) and even if it has 'lapsed' supporters may not be obvious or one of the reports available to staff.
With that said and if the club want to do something about this, then I will happily offer my services to the club 'gratis' to analyse any/all sources of data and produce a report on this for them to act on.
I will not justify myself on here with regard to my credentials to do this, but will happily do so to any memeber of Quins RL should they want to take me up on this offer.

There is always going to be some kind of clash in London, hard to avoid in a city of 7.5 million with all the events that go on, but the size in itself should be of benefit to the club.

selfish.....purely selfish
Seriously though, although the volunteers group do this at the moment, I have to say it is not their job. £,000's of £'s are going to be raised this year by the group and to be fair, they seem like the most pro-active people at the club.
I would really like to see every ticket purchaser "on the day" given an online voucher to be redeemed for 1 further future online purchase. That way, we know they have attended 2 games and can ask them for feedback for a further 3rd game voucher...........etc etc etc....
We are told (and I understand) that this is year 1, but we need action now and not just from the volunteers.

There are only a few big games, it isn't hard to schedule Wigan, Leeds and Saints so they don't clash with a big event and not on Sky.

Well apart from the clashes that have already been pointed out, and those that argue about football/speedway and other clashes.
In London once the regular football season is finished there are to come 10 days of ashes cricket and two England games, add to that F1 (on tv). 20/20 World Cup (on tv), the rest fo the ashes (on tv). All the myriad 'smaller' sports. Not to mention the gigs that will take place in the capital over the summer..... I don't think it is that easy to 'not' clash with a big event either in London or on TV.

I agree. This was done the last time we were at the Stoop. Each game you attended you went to the kiosk and got a card stamped, after so many stamps you were given a free T shirt and other such freebies. It was good for new supporters buying tickets as after a few weeks they could sport the club colours at no extra cost to themselves. Many of these people came back the next season as a season ticket holder. Does anyone else on here remember the rugby ball kiosk inside Gate 2 where the event took place. Wonder where that kiosk ended up, in a shed or on the tip
