Yeah I'm really hungry and it makes me grouchy!
I have no problem with them responding with humour to questions like yours that are non-specific and fatuous.

| There I was thinking, I was trying to defuse the churlish comments you were making about a petition! Which I never even looked at, as I don't see that necessary.
I do feel that some of the young referees, currently are at an all time low with standards of levels of competence, and show very little all round statute on the pitch. Week in week out there seems to be so many bad calls and bad decisions, but if you see it as all fine, that's your opinion!

Youre question was along the lines of 'why does he ignore all high shots on Broncos players'. RL is a massively difficult sport to referee, its v high intensity, v fast, doesn't stop. There will always be 'mistakes'.

| scottHKR just one question, are you a ref?
Looking at the petition, I agree with some and not others
Technology at all games or no games!
Forward pass!! what about momentum?
Two refs rubbish idea
Aus use this system where ref is happy that try has been scored they then ask for infringement leading up too the try.
How do you give linesmen more responsibility, they are miked up anyhow, the "advise" the ref they don't make the decision what do you want to do give em a whistle? that would make 4 refs if you went for 2 on the field
Why is on report a cop out?

| its funny reffing from the stands is easy, 50-60-70 mtrs from the play seeing something that a ref misses from 5mtrs away! yes I have done it, then looked at the tv later and thought yep good call from the ref.
You only have to listen to the calls from the stands to realise a lot of supporters have an interesting perspective on the rules, and its funny its only the other team who are offside never the team you are supporting
Its a fast fluid sport, reffing this season has generally been pretty good, if you want to sanistise the sport to the point where every single thing is picked up lets call it American football and play at their speed. Lets go the yawnion way and spend 3 mins setting every scrum! or maybe accept that the occasional error will be made and put up with it.

| I'd love to know where the money to pay for all these extra refs/video refs/cameras/cameramen is going to come from.

You don't need to be a ref to have an opinion on them.
The forward pass momentum thing is stupid. The ball should go backwards from the player passing. End of.
Report is a cop out because it is no longer only used for offenses the ref didn't see. They put high shots on report. What for? They saw it was high. The fact that you don't need to be put on report to be cited post game speaks volumes for what little power putting someone on report has.

Tbh, a lot of it has gone into trying to keep a London team in super league.
We also have no sponsor, and last season's sponsor provided the sport with £0.
That's the reason there is no money.

You've come to the wrong board to make sure accusations as a lot of money has gone into trying to keep a London team in super league.
I await gutterfax's standard reply.

Can I ask for a bit more detail on that? What money has the RFL sunk into it?
If you're going to make passive aggressive comments on the boards for the London team (and others, trying to create tension) don't get shirty when people make comments at you.
The big problem is not many people want to watch the sport, not many want to play it, and even fewer want to officiate it. So your petition will only make people think it's such a thankless task why bother, especially when you want to reduce the efficacy of the referee by making them more dependant on tech.

| Like I have said in another post! reffing from the stand or sat in front of the TV is easy!
Momentum rule is exactly that, but if you have a player passing the ball when they are at full speed the actually travel carriage of the ball over the ground will be fwd over the ground. On the fwd pass I actually agree that there seems to be a reluctance for officials to call it, TJ's only advise its the ref that decides if he wants to call it fwd
As for sin bin, and on report yes it should only be used for incidents that are not severe enough to justify removing the player from the field. one offence on the pitch may not justify sin bin but if the player is persistent offender then he should face discip, the ref on the day cannot do that.
The only way you will get rid of "mistakes" is sanitise the sport to the level of American football would you want that.

| I do think the replays that vid ref is watching should not be shown on the big screens at games, they don't show it live at NRL games.
Having an understanding of what it is like to ref might give you a different view on standards, actually from what I have sen this year the blokes in the middle have been pretty good this year.
The only real controversy has been caused by the technology that its being suggested should be increased.

Are now you are showing your true colours and you are very wide of the mark and wrong on a number of counts. About sums up your petition biased in every respect.

Whereas Hull KA get the same amount of money as London and produce few SL level players and are apparently very short of money despite hand-outs from the council to improve the stadium and being based in an RL hotbed with strong media support and amateur RL heritage.
Who's wasting the money?

Can't agree, I have never seen a season with so many forward passes missed, which lead to tries, that is getting something basic wrong. Roby for me stands in strange positions, not allowing him to see passes go forward, but then he has two assistants to help?
Some of the best video ref work has been with Ian Smith, when he talks you through his decision!
