Seems to me everyone is trying to blame each other, i.e. RFL saying its Sky, then this guy blaming Quins for saying we dont take many supporters. Myself where i think he got that idea from is,somebody at Quins must have had a look at how many if any had book thoguht the Club or Catalan Tours and come up with a silly answer.

Have to admit that guy from RFL on radio last night. made me laugh when he said "well we moved a Wigan game at Catalans once before and they didnt mind", only to add it was at was at a start of a season and they did have a few months notice. icon_rolleyes.gif , and how kind they have been in giving us 6 weeks notce instead of the normal 4 icon_biggrin.gifOH:

But even so the one thing is EITHER of them, Sky or RFL have yet said why they had to move it to a Sunday, Unless i missed that, but i'm sure i didnt

Unfortunately, I suspect the sad economic reality is that putting 20 or 30 or 100 people in this position every time when this happens will not deter Sky from doing it again. It's not their money - and if 10% or 50% of those people cancel their Sky subscriptions in protest, it's a drop in the ocean to them.

It wasn't very clever of the RFL man to come out and say it out loud, but he is right - the numbers involved are small. Very annoying if you are one of them (as I am - have now lost wads of money changing our plans) - but ultimately small numbers of people affected in the scheme of things, and hence nothing we can do.

Now that I am spending a small fortune to see this game, we had better bloody well win.

Did not hear the radio broadcast, but this `small numbers` thing is a total red herring..........did the RFL man happen to mention what `numbers` criteria is being applied?......When does an acceptable number of inconvenienced fans become unacceptable.....is 100, 250, 1000???

As most fans from all clubs travel under their own steam for the Catalan game, how did the RFL or anybody else for that matter arrive at a number that would be inconvenienced?

The reality is that the Catalan game is a special game where many fans who do not normally travel to away games make that extra effort, so normal travelling numbers in the UK do not apply.

I am still none the wiser as to why the game was moved and what criteria (if any) was applied which made someone think it was fine to do so......but then again what do I know, I am just a dumb fan who was travelling to France, had booked holiday, paid for flights, booked accomodation etc, only to see it all undone and to end up our of pocket.

snip.
Really should control my emotions.

Let's just say I do not believe the quote on the BBC site attributed to our General Manager....
"We obviously made a representation at the time saying that this is going to seriously impact on a group of our supporters".

yeah right icon_rolleyes.gif ........but decided not to tell anyone until it became obvious that we had really c0cked this up.

Quote: gutterfax "1.SKY called the RFL to see if the fixture could be moved.
2. The RFL called the club and a member of staff (no name was given to me) said that as we didn't have many fans who go to away games, there was no problem as far as Harlequins Rugby League were concerned (I WILL COME BACK TO THIS)'"

Do you really believe the 'individual' involved glibly accepted this ? Maybe, the RFL made it clear there was no room for manouvre ? Maybe numbers were never discussed ?

I struggle to understand why you are constantly siding against the club nowadays. I thought this was the domain of DL and you were more constructive, well these days all you come out with criticism, I sense as a result of a massive frustration that things are not moving as quickly as we all would like ?

Bottom line, people keep saying this is year 1 of a 3 year programme - things will not turn around in a matter of months - the proof will be in the pudding at the end of year 3 or next time the franchises come round. I am sure no one at the club is under any illusion here or do you think they just dont care ?

Once again GF thanks for your efforts.

Having read the series of events you have posted there appears to be one significant breakdown in the chain that appears to be the casual link to the problem, and that is who is the formal point of contact at the club.

The biggest away support that Ive seen at the games Ive been to is Catalans. The last 2 trips we've had a large support.

So it's OK for the club to announce the fixture change in a two liner on the website, bury their heads in the sand for 6 days, then announce that they objected on the grounds that it would bugger a group of our fans ........................only when pressed into it by the BBC?

Sorry, but IF a strong objection was lodged at the time, then why not announce it there and then?

As for siding against the club, I did no such thing. I simply wanted to ensure that this didn't happen to anyone else in future.

As for things not moving as quickly as I like icon_eek.gif Too fri99in right! Down 500 odd per game so far this season and 800 since our last season at Brentford.....there's progress for you.

I have always offered constuctive criticism (or tried to), but this Catalan fiasco is beyond comprehension.
Simply put....it could have been handled a whole lot better than it has.

Sorry the expanded announcement was on the web site before Rammos show. For what its worth I have emailed Craig Spence asking for any proof as to the club saying not many would be going - not holding my breath for a reply.

you wont get it.

QUINS RELEASE ON SITE
"When we were notified of the proposed change, we did express concerns that this would seriously disrupt our travelling supporters as many had already finalised their plans based upon the original date of Saturday 18th July.

Whilst being sympathetic to this fact the RFL still chose to move the fixture and, under our franchise agreement, we are obviously obliged to fulfil the fixture".

RFL COMMENT
Harlequins didn't believe many fans were making the trip" AND "Harlequins believed that those fans making the trip were staying for a week"

Someone is shall we say, being economical with the truth here.

I have burnt many bridges well and truly over this and I wasn't even booked to go out icon_rolleyes.gif
I can honestly say that if this whole sorry episode ensures that SKY never do this again, then the loss of contact (s) will have been worth it.

I still say for any member of the club to say we don't have many travelling fans, whislt patently obvious, is also bang out of order.
