It's possible for one man to largely carry the team in attack but he still needs the other players to defend. If you want to know what happens when that isn't the case you only need look at London Broncos when we had Craig Gower playing for us and 12 players around him who couldn't tackle for toffee (or in some cases, wouldn't tackle for toffee).
The other risk of course is that you end up like Warrington toward the end of Briers playing days, if you were able to effectively target Briers you completely disrupted the Wire attack. Having a single playmaker makes you very vulnerable.
