I think if you watch all games the play the ball slows down as the game goes on, due to fatigue on both sides!

The ref will generally call the tackle complete! either by calling the tackle count! or something along the lines of "stand up" then the tackle count if its a dominant or surrender tackle! this is when the player should move if they have not already.
In the quote you highlighted, the ref did blow in the second half a couple of times for quins players spinning on top of a grounded player, this is what I am referring to with players knowing the rules, you can only do this on certain type of tackle!!!
In my opinion he did blow too much in the first half but it was the same for both teams so I dont think we have any complaints. In the second half he allowed the game to run a bit more, and again was the same with both teams! Thats all really you can ask!

it could have been down to the fact the players realised that they were breaking the rules of the game and errr maybe stopped doing it as much so the ref did not have to blow as much

I just think its quite funny, we run in 70 points but we still knock the officials, the boys give away probably half a dozen penalties that they should not have done, they were correct calls on the penalties! you cant blame Ganson for that! We never seem to be able to play to how the officials interpret the rules! If a ref blows early in a game for laying on then dont do it for rest of the game.
If another ref allows a bit more time, then use it! Its called smart rugby.

Ganson has the reputation for being keen to blow, especially for not releasing quick enough!! Why dont the players play to that!? Its not as if its the first time he has reffed us!!!

I wasn't blaming the referee. I merely passed comment that there was an awful lot of whistle with actually infringements on both sides. It sure stopped the game from flowing though which was a shame. Mind you the majority of the RU fans present are well used to breaks in play!

There was a bit of talk going around that Pryce + Mellor (half back Im told) are joining from Wigan plus 2 from Wire and possibly a prop from ?. Interesting week ahead.

Pryce? Oh dear. That's unless Powell can give him a bit of bottle, something no other coach has managed. (I wouldn't say that to his face, mind.)

Just to give you a little bit of background info on Joe Mellor, Back in 09 when Sam Tomkins broke into the first team those that went to the reserves tipped Tomkins & Mellor to be the Wigan half-back pairing for years to come, as Mellor has all the capabilities of being the next Sam Tomkins now obviously 2010 was a different story for young Joe but if he has got over the injury, & at his age there is no reason why he shouldn't then given game time then you have definitely got a real talent on your hands assuming the deal happens of course. Joe is without question a future International good luck to Joe & good luck to Quins for 2011 Super League needs a competitive Quins & with Joe on board those odds increase.

GF-The top has the 4 quarters as per usual with black shoulders. the shoulders slope a bit like the Tottenham football top. On the back of the shoulders it slopes again but in green-If that makes any sense

MOM for me was Burnett(sp) He looked very very good-running with the ball out wide he reminded me of Hoppo-Hughsey said we tried to buy him but Hull wouldnt let him go
The 2 Aussies looked OK-Im sure as it firms up and they get used to SL they will be good-
The team looked like it had some genuine speed-OK it was only Skolars and some of the offloads will have to be controlled plus the fancy moves will be closed down
Concern-Defence looked week at times particularly around the goal line worryingly-Skolars went over and close more than the score suggests

And they put up a really good move on there right wing which really did deserve a try, it did expose our laft wing a bit

As a comparison I watched Cas v York a couple of weeks ago, I would say we have a better attack but cas defence much tighter than what we showed yesterday, and that was against the City knights who have a reasonable squad
