| Quote: wire-quin "I bet there are some good ones in there given there are only 30 top jobs in the world'"
There are so many Australians who have coached, left first-grade and gone into business. Others who have coached in the NSW Cup, Queensland Cup, a whole raft of up and coming coaches in the Toyota Cup as well as assistant coaches in the NRL.
With Aussie SL coaches being overlooked in favour of stay at home coaches such as Rick Stone, Ivan Henjak and Kevin Moore. Many Aussie coaches may well see us as a risk, getting off from the conveyor belt of talent. Daniel Anderson wasn't guaranteed a job when he decided to leave St Helens and he won the lot. Flip-side is there is so much talent in Australia that we could do worse than looking at anyone from any grade in Australia.
In England I would only be looking at the Co-operative Championship as the assistants here don't seem to be of the same quality as in Australia. We just can't seem to keep quality coaches in our game. Some good ones in the Championship, but we don't know what their business interests are.
30 top jobs in the world, and London has to be attractive to a number of coaches for a great many reasons. Hopefully Hughesy will pick the right candidate.

| Ill be very disappointed if we recruit an inexperienced British coach who's come through the system at a northern SL club. We need either an experienced SL coach or a less experienced young Australian coach. This is a tough job and if we end up with a McNamara or McDermott type coach Ill be gutted. Its a big step up to SL and we cant afford to get it wrong again. Brian Mac was a disaster as far as Im concerned, and his alleged redeaming quality (bringing through local youngsters) was a direct result of his hopeless recruitment and injury prone squad and nothing else.

THE ideal man would be Wayne Bennett but that won't happen. [If he were one of the 25 applicants, the short-list would have only one name on it.]
Kear might be OK, but I'd prefer an Aussie with up to date knowledge of NRL people and techniques.
BTW, does anybody know how this vacancy has been advertised? It's well-known over here, but is anybody in the Antipodes, except for Rooster Booster, even going to know about it?

| Gooner, someone on the BBC Sport msg board mentions it.
No reason to suggest there's any validity in it.

| I doubt DH will want to spend money buying out what remains of JK`s contract at Wakey (better spent on a better coach or players) and for me JK would not be a great choice. I quite like the guy, but if we choose him because he has done reasonably well with limited resources then I think it sends out the wrong message regarding our future aspirations i.e. mid-table is about all we could ever expect.....this appointment is not only about doing better next season but continuous improvement over a number of seasons. An Aussie coach without the northern based family issues and good contacts to bring in some south-sea islander grunt up front would be good, as there is naff all props to choose from left in the UK. We suffer every year because our pack/team is small compared to the competition.

| "League Express" claim today that Terry Matterson turned us down and that leaves Francis Cummins and James Lowes, personally I would not touch Lowes and Francis is still too raw?

How does that leave Francis Cummins and James Lowes. Have we learnt nothing from the Brian McDermott fiasco that has been the last one and a half seasons.

| Would be pleased with either Lowes of Cummins. Both have served excellent apprenticeships, and realistically, we are not a top SL side.

| I don't think not being a top Super League side right now should be a barrier to getting a great head coach. Maybe I'm being too idealistic and not realistic enough, but I think the club needs to start making brave and ambitious decisions.
