| Quote: Essex Quin "Millwall - The Millwall ground, The New Den, ticks all the boxes, the area ticks the boxes but then theres two factors against the club; rent and image. I imagine renting out The Den just to get 3,000 in will be a poor business move and the costs going out to Millwall through rent, use of bars etc will outweigh the money going into the Rugby League side. Also, Milwall are known world over for one thing; violence. The dark days of the 80's may be behind us but there's still problems at some Millwall, especially the Leeds games and I'm sure there'd be a risk that some Millwall "fans" would turn up the day Leeds Rhinos were in town just for that. Rugby League, as we know, is a family sport and Millwall is just a bad idea.
QPR - Great place, surrounded by Antipodeans, Kiwis and South Africans. 19,100 is the official capacity for the ground, the ground is so tight to the pitch that you can hear the collisions and the slating going on, however, leg room is poor, something that could be put up with, I suppose. The ground is in close proximity to White City station and offers the "family experience". A husband and wife come down with their two kids for the weekend or even the day and Dad and lad can watch the Rugby and Mum and Daughter can go round the Westfield for the day. The only thing is do QPR want a Rugby team "ruining" their ground, Wigan Athletic FC have always had complaints about their playing surface and I'm not sure QPR would want that.
Brentford - 12,700+ capacity, experience of playing on that ground before, four pubs in close proximity, close to the motorway, just a bit far on the Tube but close by overground train. Don't know if the RFL require a certain amount of seats at the ground (?), as three sides are standing. Previously had 4,000 crowds regularly when previously played there, so it'd be a good starter.
Charlton - 27,111 attendance, so I imagine the rent is pretty high. Close by public transport. Can't see them wanting Rugby League back and I can't see it being viable playing in a 27,000 capacity ground.
Leyton Orient - The only problem is the capacity. The ground is a five minute walk from the tube station, their is a pub near the ground, two bars at the ground and their is talk that they want a 15,000 seater stadium on the Olympic site (would the RFL let the club off on that ground criteria?). Getting "in" with Barry Hearn is actually a exceptional idea. He runs his Football club like a business, he'll not give his manager money to go out and spend in the hope they go up/stay up and he's turned Darts and Snooker around. Darts is effectively a pub game and now its a atmospheric occasion with big money involved. The proximity to Stratford is also a big factor. The youth side, Hainault Bulldogs are up the road, Brentwood Elvers isn't far up the road, Skolars is a very short drive away, Tower Hamlets has been in the London RL news recently and there are Hainault, Phantoms, Mudchutes open age sides very close by.
Barnet - Too small, old ground, far from London, sloped pitch, small capacity.
I see it three ways between QPR, Brentford and Leyton Orient.'"
You missed the Stoop off the list. Odd because there it is the best of the lot. Moving ground will not solve any of our problems (unless someone is throwing us a lot of money to do it).

Exactly.
If someone is willing to stump up £500k for us, then I'd rather see it spent on quality players. Moving stadium and another name change isn't going to bring in anymore fans, if we're playing the exact same team and losing every game. I wish someone at the club could see this, instead of trying to score the easy way out again.

If we're thinking like that, then I suggest The Liberty Stadium, Swansea.

| Stay at The Stoop. Over the 30 years of RL in London, continually moving around the city has never improved our fan base. It's always been around 3,000 so moving to Millwall, QPR, Leyton Orient etc etc and still playing infront of the same spectator numbers would made zero difference.

With AFC Wimbledon in a play-off against Luton Town for a place in the Football League, are they someone we should consider getting in contact with were we to be interested in setting permanent foundations in London and the South East.
The football club currently achieves a 3500 average home gate at Kingsmeadow which is the home of Kingstonian FC. AFC Wimbledon have a desire to return closer to their traditional home. The general Wimbledon area would be not much further out of central London than Twickenham and does have underground and overground stations in that area.
Just thinking that we can't do it ourselves, and Wimbledon may have the support of authorities that we could not rely upon and the finances may be alot easier to secure for the year-round use 10,000 seater stadium in the general area of Wimbledon in London, something that David Hughes has alluded to. A 50% share of a stadium would have us in a better position than other super league clubs and would it be a better use of David Hughes money to put say £8m down via whatever means, rather than drain his money away around £1.5m a season.
I'm not saying we should hawk ourselves out to AFC Wimbledon in desperation, latching onto whomever may want to build, but from the outside it does seem to be a better fit than Harlequins and RL, but how much more of a marriage of convenience would it be as we would be seen as minor partners unless we had a 51% ownership of the ground.
Wimbledon is not the nice expensive houses and tennis, the surrounding area is sprawling suburbia and the area of Merton is surrounded by Kingston, Morden, Wandsworth, New Malden, etc and would be closer to our original homes of Fulham and also the Valley. A club in the North and South of London can only help the game, but would be nice if the Skolars could make the leap up to the Championship and bring a genuine sense of rivalry.
Pie in the sky or a roadmap forward when our deal at the Stoop comes to an end three years down the line. A move of 10 miles would not be the end of the community program in the Twickenham area, and I reckon a permanent home could only help the community program across London in the long run. I'm not David Hughes, and I don't know his finances, but I reckon this is something to look at for the future of rugby league in London, because at the end of 2014 there is no guarantees on anything.

I'll say it slowly....because some on here must have trouble grasping the fact. M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G.
It makes no difference what we are called or where we play....it is either a tradition of the club or DH not wanting to "waste" money marketing, but we could play in a state of the art stadium in Oxford Circus and no bu99er would roll up unless they have been invited to.
1,000,000 of David Hughes reported 1,500,000 a year should be spent on marketing.......that's what would turn the crowds around......obviously it being spent on playing/coaching staff is getting the required results
