That was my general feeling at the time as I recall. He seemed to go at the right time without outstaying his welcome, but without a clamouring for him to change his mind.

I think I recall believing that he had gone on at least one season too long, the exceptions are always there but in most sports there is a "shelf life" to coaches abilities to affect constent performance change..............having him back as a coach could prove fruitful for a short period of time, if, and it's a big if, he had a reliable understudy to bring through within one or two seasons. I still think TR had valuable contacts which we are now seeing the benefit of having at that time [sop to Old Fulham, even if we could not get Queensland contacts
However it's all pipe dreams and speculations, the key point is that we either have a new coach in place for the start of next season, or, we have a pretty much revamped squad with all being an improvement on the current incumbents, otherwise nothing much will alter from this season..........a few good wins, a few upsets, and a string of poor performances.

Tony was at the Salford game in one of the boxes with our esteemed chairman
Did not see his reaction to the second half debacle tho, only half time

Love to have TR back but not as coach. I would like to see someone like John Kear as coach who has made scant resources go far elsewhere.

I think this is a nice to see Tony Rea back in the UK, but if were to stay any longer it would be the union brand of Harlequins that he would coach at some level. I cannot see him coming back to Quins RL in any format. at the current time.

I'd have him back as Director of Rugby (the same sort of post that Steve Sims has at Salford), but not first team coach.

Agreed I think TR could do a good job at that, problem though could be who would want to be coach in that set up? TR probably has too much previous being involved at all levels in the club, not to mention being involved in the hiring/firing/replacing of two Broncos coaches during his time as CEO.

Have to agree. Because of his past connections with the club would he able to stop himself trying to pass on some ideas or get involved in the training. (after all that was the reason he gave him leaving, that missed being a coach)

I like the club to maybe ask him, when hes back in Aus working (yes i know its for the dark side), if he could work as an overseas scout and doing abit of talent spotting. after all when you look back he in did bring in some good players for us. icon_smile.gif

Indeed a top bloke, quite the wit on one flight back from Perpignan, good with the supporters and London RL through and through, but coach would be a backward step, some other role could surely be found though.
