| The RFL are putting a tv ad on ITV for Super League but only showing it in Yorks and Lancs. I hope theyre putting the equivalent value into marketing for us in London's papers / radio stations.

| I remember when RL was advertised in the South! In 1982 Fulham advertised their game against Australia and 10,000 turned up in god-awful weather.
Oh for those days to return......................

| It always amazes me how appallingly the RFL is run. The one place SL does not need additional promotion is Yorks / Lancs ( they already know about it ) They try and promote our game as a nationwide sport only to shoot themselves in the foot with their own advertising.
They continue to undersell the sport, their lack of ambition is evident with the World Cup this year, the semi finals at Wembley is lower tier only. They cannot even try and fill up the ground with the 4 best RL teams in the world on show. Another example is the recent announcement that Foxy bloody Bingo is now an official partner of SL, while lesser sports get Blue Chip companies queuing up to give their support.
I honestly believe that the RFL would struggle to run a Pub Darts League in the South of England

Completely agree!
It was interesting at the end of the North West opt out show on BBC1 last night at 7.30pm the trailer for next week was about the serious concern about the future of rugby league!

Well, the weather has.
One season when we were at GP, Broncos advertised upcoming games on ITV teletext. I've no idea how cost effective that proved, but it didn't last long so I guess it wasn't thought to be working.

Anyone who has worked in advertising or marketing knows that only Frequency of commercials ever works, 3 or 4 spots in football coverage (ITV take stupid breaks times anyway) is not going to set the world on fire! people use it for a chance in the main to make the last bathroom trip before kick off or get a drink and the same at half time! annoys me they show the teams walk out then take a break, why not take it five minutes earlier?
Agree with you on one thing not everyone is green in the core areas of the game, so it is needed more than at any time, but clubs still do not see to get the message, 2,100 at John Wilkins Testimonial game, prices were £20, why are Challenge Cup gates low? once people have paid out for a season ticket they do not have endless money!

Exactly the thinking which has inhibited the growth of RL over the last century or so.

| At a guess, reckon the RFL are paying between 22K and 25k for these spots on Granada and Yorkshire ITV....and as has been said already, given "frequency" is the key to most forms of above the line marketing, there would have been better ways to waste cash
The targetting of wendyball fans smacks of the work of someone who doesn't understand TGG.......IMHO that is.

RL will appeal more to soccer fans than rah rah fans imo. Dont have a problem with that, but disappointed that this new marketing campaign is retreating to the North so much. Big advertising boards in Manchester and now TV ads in Yorks / Lancs only.

| We now have a great argument for some cash for marketing, why not ask for some?

I'm guessing it's due to reach and costs.
As an average. It can cost between 3 to 3.5 times more to put the same ad on ITV in London than it would in Yorkshire, or between 2 to nearly 3 times on Granada, dependent on the time of day and programme for a one off slot.
Or put another way, you'd spend less to place one ad on BOTH Yorkshire and Granada TV when Coronation Street (19:30 slot) than you would to place it in London alone. AND, if you went to the expensive 21:30 slot, you could almost run that same ad TWICE in Yorkshire and once in Granada for the one appearance in London.
Disappointing for Londoners wanting to spread the word, yes, but for audience and demographics, they've chosen to preach to the converted.
