| Forget name changes, new colours, and all that jazz. The most important thing this club needs is to rebuild the squad, get that wrong and absolutely nothing else will matter. And the logical place to start that process is the team dropping out of SL and the team not coming up, ie Crusaders and Halifax.
St Helens fans seem convinced they're signing Ben Flower, a talented young player who will only get better in the years to come.
We, on the other hand, seem destined to sign Mark Bryant. Probably on more money than Flower would be on at Sts.
Personally, I'd be going for the four young taffs (Flower, Kear, White, Dudson) and Witt from the Crusaders, plus Sam Barlow and Anthony Bowman from Halifax. Maybe even Rob Worrincy for a back up winger. I'd be steering well clear of mediocre, ageing prop forwards.

| Is looking down the best way to go up?
Would we not be better looking at our shotcomings and develop a strategy to fill them to meet our playing objectives rather than just buy players because they are available

| Well we need to strengthen the squad and there are some players available that are (only in my opinion of course) better than what we've got already. And they're not going to be playing SL next year at their current clubs, so...

Do we? I can't recall seeing anything bar one person suggesting him as a possible signing on the rumour thread.

| TBH at the moment i dont care what the name is going to be or the colour we going to be playing, or even if players going to be wearing red.pink or black boots to play in.
If the club dont give us a few names they have signed or some more names from the present squad who they are retaining to keep us fans happy or at least talking about them. Then it wont matter what the name of the club is going to be, as there might not be many there to watch them.
Flowers could have been a good recruit, young and willing to work hard.
And like so many have already said if we stll messing around looking for a SH then they should have got Witt and his agent up the stoop by now for a look a round and chat. I saw on sky that Witt had said about just getting a house with a garden in Wales for his family, then if the club read that its the one thing they should be showing him, got to be some nice places round the river with gardens, blimey if its a garden he wants maybe Purds will rent his place to him, heard its nice garden full of Veg too...

Bryan
Caro

Randall (quota)
Bailey (quota)
Bolger
Golden
Krasniqi
12 players, so lots of gaps to fill.

Unless you quickly sign some quality players, I reckon you will finish bottom. There are some decent players in there, but apart from Dorn and Randall there is no spark. I don't particularly rate Clubb (even though I havent seen him too often in fairness), Howell is ok on his day but he doesnt exactly set the world alight, and the rest are youngsters (bar Melling, Bailey and Golden who are just average).

| We are taking a massive step backwards. We are meant to be signing Bryant? A 30 year old prop who isnt edzactly a 'big unit'. We are losing players like Ellis? We are destined to finish bottom at this rate.

I'd like to think our club is being proactive in the background, because other clubs will already be making players offers (as Bradford and Wakefield have done for a couple of our better ones) and if we leave it too late some of our potential targets will already have been snapped up. It always used to be said the club newly promoted from National League to Superleague was at a disadvantage because by the time their promotion had been confirmed all the best free agents had been tied down by rival clubs.
I have to say I can't understand this fixation some people have with recruiting from Crusaders. They're the worst other squad in the league . If we're as serious about improving quality and stepping up a level as the club's announcements would have us believe, as opposed to just plugging gaps and muddling along as before, I would think there are likely to be better options elsewhere.

It's not a fixation at all. But they do have some decent players, certainly better than a lot of the makeweights in our squad. The ones I listed earlier, in my opinion, are better than what we've currently got. That has to be progress.
But whatever the club does, it needs to get on with it sharpish. At the minute we're looking like dead certs for 14th next year. Re-brand all you like, but getting stuffed every week means this club has just three years left before losing the licence.

| Someone has updated Chris Armit's wiki page to say he's joining Quins for 2012. Prop forward, played for Scotland in the 2008 RLWC. No idea if it's true or not.
