| This is a genuine question. Does anyone know if we HAVE to remain known as Harlequins RL?

Why respond with that? It was a genuine question. Are we legally obliged in any way to remain known as Harlequins?

| To a large percentage of the posters on the this forum - we ARE Quins RL.
To anyone who has become involved in the club since they have been at The Stoop (this time) they are Quins RL.
As a marketable brand, they are Quins RL
This is the forum for the supporters of Quins RL.
Other then irritating people by your continual references to the past - what do you hope to achieve?
Have you possibly thought of going onto the Manchester United supporters forum and suggesting they change their name back to Newton Heath?
What response do you think you would get from them?
I repeat my previous post " What difference could that possibly make to anything, other than expose your own sad prejudices"

| Its certainly an interesting question
If you think of the pros and cons for each of the two clubs
Quins RL Pros
Using the Stoop is a pro and a necessity for licence renewal
Quins RL Cons
The name has not really caught on
There appears to be little benefit from the tie up in off field activities
The shirt
Quins RU Pros
Additional revenue from use of the stadium
Rent from RL using office space
Quins RU Cons
3000 crowds are probably a bit of an embarrasment to them
So the one thing that benefits both clubs is surely the use of the Stoop so probabaly no reason for either party to change that. Which begs the question as to whether either club is happy with the naming of the RL club
Clearly I have no idea of the financial tie up but in the absence of knowing this there appears to be little benefit to either

It is a sensible answer.
If it would appease your delicate sensibilities, feel free to call them London Harlequins (as opposed to the multitude of other RL based Harlequins that currently exist)

London Broncos were bankrupt - insufficient money / constantly changing location etc etc etc.
The choices were Harlequins or fold
What did you want to happen?
By taking the Harlequins name, the club continued to exist, has put down roots and built an award winning community scheme (all of which apparently pale into insignificance against the heinous crime of being called Harlequins and - horror of horrors - having an association with a union club
The fact is - the club is now Harlequins / Quins RL - if this offends you then don't let the door hit you on the way out.
His suggestions in other threads have already been discounted as obsolete, unworkable and 10 years out of date
Other than stirring up dissent, what do you think the purpose is of a person who - by his own admission - hasn't attended a game since the name change?

| I'm with SteveQuin on this one.
I can't take anyone seriously who only posts on here when the team has gone on a losing streak.

| I have not posted this thread to wind anyone up or start a debate. It is a genuine question as to whether we are obliged to use the name Harlequins. As Chris wrote, using the stoop is beneficial to both the RU and RL outfit and I am not advocating another move, I am simply asking the question - whether you disagree with my other views or not - I fail to understand why asking such a question merits such abuse.

| I haven't seen the contract but realistically it will contain a get out clause, with a set period of notice for both Quins RU and RL. Whatever initial deal was signed appears to have been renewed (probably slightly re-negotiated in the process) last season. It is almost certainly too late for either side to serve notice for next season.
Frankly I think Quins RU have slightly bigger things to worry about than whether Quins RL are causing them problems at this moment in time. As for the finances, it was made very clear the two sets of accounts remain separate so we ain't costing them dosh, though there is no obvious huge gain for them financially either - though I think the re-negotiation was probably to their advantage rather than ours from the hints dropped at the time.
My understanding is that Quins RU made us changing name a pre-condition of us moving to Twickenham Stoop. As such if we change name we will be homeless and on the move again (in the unlikely event we still exist without the name Quins.) Legally we probably could change name for the season after next, practically there is no chance we can unless someone fancies sinking in lots and lots of money for the foreseeable future to bankroll us.
We can talk all day about changing name, ground etc but those who bankroll the club have made it clear they think this is the best option. Unless either that changes, Quins RU get fed up with us or someone else is prepared to replace the current boards financial input there ain't going to be a name change.
