Email from the club (yesterday admittedly):

At the moment the thinking is that it will be played on the Friday evening prior to the Challenge Cup Final. Whether that happens will be confirmed by Friday. If it is not going to be then, it is likely to be on August 8/9, which is not ideal because we play Quins on the 2nd at Odsal. The decision, when it is taken, will obviously be taken for Football reasons; i.e. when it is most suitable for the Coaches of both clubs. The RFL were keen for it to be played on a Wednesday between two Super League games – as per the rules – but the clubs argued against this and the compromise was the Challenge Cup weekend. However, London Scholars traditionally play a game on that night, hoping to attract a crowd who are there for the final. An agreement will have to be reached with them if it is to be that day.


It doesn't affect you lot as much, but a friday fixture or wednesday would be terrible for us given the distance for travel. I'm sure Quins will be concerned aswell due to £££ from supporters. I hope they change it.

Totally agree. Some people are fixated with this bizzare idea that thousands of neutrals will flock to the match.

As well as affecting Bradford supporters, it wouldn't be great for many home fans either, having only finished work a few hours earlier.

I agree that it should have been played this weekend, but I have no sympathy for clubs that may have to travel here on a Friday evening, given the travelling we do in a season.

I don't think it's in any way bad. Trying to find the best date should be first. And having it as a doubleheader on the eve of the cc final is the best. They should look at hosting a cc final party at the ground too

no. You just go on about it the most. Also nothing stopping you from going to just one game and Missing the others. Single ticket for MM was 14.50. One of the cheapest away games of the season.

I can see the sense of having the match on the Friday of the CC final weekend, even if the reported estimates of of a 10K crowd do seem a bit optimistic. However, should we tread on the Skolars' toes like this?

Personally, Friday evening is a horrible night for me and anyone else who has to negotiate an 80+ mile journey - including the M25 - to get to the Stoop. But if its for the greater good, I will endure this inconvenience.



However, I recall my first ever London Broncos' game was the match versus Wigan the day AFTER the CC Final at Twickenham. If I remember rightly, CC Final spectators got in for a fiver and that seemed to attract a reasonable number of people. Why can't we do the same again? That way, we don't upset the Skolars, Quins still gets some extra revenue on the Sunday and fans have the prospect of seeing three matches on a bank holiday weekend.

I remember that game and it does seem to make sense to me. Let the Skolars have the Friday night and then we play Sunday at say 1.00 so people have plenty of time to get back up North. If you have a CC final ticket stub you get in for a fiver or similar.

If they play the game on the free weekend in Aug we will end up playing the Bulls twice in 6 days.

More annoyingly I will be on holiday and will miss the quins v quins rejects

The question is - can we lobby Quins about this? I am also on holiday on 8/9 August. I planned the holiday especially not to coincide with any Superleague fixtures.

I also remember this game. I spent an hour or so at Twickenham before kick-off handing out leaflets advertising our game and the £5 offer. Many fans said they were interested but they were going back after the game and had it been Friday etc etc.

Also going back many years (about 1983), I remember Fulham playing Cardiff on cup final eve at Stamford Bridge. It certainly seemed to attract a larger crowd than normal.

Would be a shame if it didnt go ahead on the friday night before the cup final, but if it doesnt, so be it.

And I totally agree with you not having sympathy for a team from the north travelling down on a friday night concidering the number of times you guys have to do it in the opposite direction. Ive driven that M1 plenty time from the south on a friday afternoon and its a non stop crawl from south of East Midlands Airport through to the M18 junction.
