After the RFL came out with their nonsense at the end of July following the Government's latest Covid travel details & cancelled both Halifax & Batley trips to France, they said they would review things after the next Govt Statement which happened last week. So will they force York to be the only part time side to go?

Does anyone believe the covid situation in both England & France will change at all between 25th September & 10th October? I guess the only thing that could change would be more vaccinations otherwise no part time team could travel. Any p/t player would have had to of had their 2nd jab no later than 25th September to be available for the Million Pound game. So if they haven't had their 1st, they will struggle to get it done. Of course the crooks could make Toulouse play their home game & MP game here.

As there is another travel review between now and first game of play offs and a good couple of weeks between that review and when Touousw would play it gives a reasonable amount of time to make plans whatever they are.

Yes NB you are correct (not often) the next review is due 15th/16th September with any changes 4 days later. A friend of mine in the Foreign Offices feels there is little medical reasons for France to move to either Green or Red in next couple of months but never rule out a political decision. They may be right or wrong who knows. On that basis, the RFL are saying in their own statement that p/t players cannot go to France on 28th August & 11th September to protect their other employment (although they have not appeared to have carried out any investigation into what effect home quarantining would have on that employment) but they can go on 2nd/3rd October (semi) & I assume the MPG will be in Toulouse if they get there on 9th/10th October irrespective of the situation (Red excepted of course).

The most damning part of their statement is the last paragraph where they say that neither Toulouse ( & why should they?) nor York should be penalised for circumstances beyond their control. Problem is, both Batley & now York were in control of those circumstances. It was a matter of choice for both clubs & players whether they vaccinated. Not saying they should force players but they should have pressured them to do so as all clubs are required to fulfill fixtures. A player that does not vaccinate makes themselves unavailable for games in France unless they want to home quarantine. A player with a broken leg is unavailable too as would Kear be if his team were due to play but the Fire Brigade said sorry son we're short on shift can't release you. Earlier this season i think Broncos had a goodly number of players from our top 25 unavailable through injury. Maybe not 7 but 5 or 6, was there any suggestion the game would be cancelled? Not on your northern Nelly mate.

Sorry to have to rehash all this again but not sure why you cannot see this is not a covid issue but an availability of players one.

Still find it difficult as a Club, we did not stand more firm! with the RFL, in the media especially! I am not for clubs who think they run the game, but being firm with genuine strong views, is only right. I sent quite a few messages of protest, but I'm only a supporter,

At the time broncos did not have any or enough players effected by covid to cause a cancellation of the game. They just refused to travel, actually I suspect it was a deliberate decision to take a 24-0 defeat as opposed to any possible covid issues related to travel, and saving 40 or 50k on travel costs.
Cas and Hudds as far as I am aware broke protocols, the fact it possibly resulted in covid positives is actually different
Should they have been punished otherwise as in points deducted maybe.
But situations were different.

The RFL said that Cas & Huddersfield failed to fulfill a fixture & that the RFL had not sanctioned the cancellation. That is clear & it really doesn't matter that Broncos failed to travel as Cas & Huddersfield would also have failed to travel too. It is the same & should be punished the same. The fact that Broncos have been treated differently both by being asked to be the only team to travel to Toulouse & by being the only team that failed to fulfill a fixture to be penalised points shows the sport is poorly managed. Some might even suggest in its broadest sense corrupt.

There was a difference though, cas failed to fulfill the fixture as they could not raise a team citing a number of reasons
We had a squad, we refused to travel, using unwillingness to isolate on return as reason.

You know what? I can't be bothered to check the small print in RL Regulations but you cannot deny that the RFL ruled on the offence. They were guilty as charged. If they couldn't find 17 players they should have conceded the game. Not attempting to play the game (in this country) is no different from us not going to a foreign country to play. The offence is the same, the mitigation may be different. Sorry you can't seem to grasp that but never mind. The RFL have handled the whole pandemic appallingly badly compared to Football, Cricket & Union.

In terms of the play offs.....I kind of wish we were due to play Toulouse in Toulouse and take the 24-0 loss and fine rather than what Halifax are going to do to us.

If Haven win their last 2 then we won't make the playoffs (we are not going to beat Fev or York based on yesterdays performance)

Haven home to Halifax & away to Bulls so no easy task to win both.

York of course have 2 weeks to prepare for us as they are not going to Toulouse.

Bear with me here. You go for the play offs to play off for a place in Super League. You can’t be a part time team in Super League. A week/ two weeks before play off places are finally decided Broncos announce they are going part time. Not a vote of confidence in the players is it. I wonder how those coming back from injury feel- worth going the extra mile. Timing of our announcements is crazy.

Yes HT I think you’re probably right. Let me put it another way. You have one more game to attract fans and make some money. Do you publicise a beer tent/ meet and greet/ whatever or do you attract reticent fans by announcing you are stepping down a level and have written off the play offs? It was a tough sell as it was. If it wasn’t for the 150 or so from Fetherstone the ground will be empty.

Yes. I don’t get the sense he was desperate to leave the South but if he knew the calibre of the squad was on a sharp downturn, he was on a hiding to nothing with the negative impact on his hard won reputation and earning potential.
As I said before the only upside is we don’t need to concern ourselves with who new manager will be or who new players will be. We already know. Sigh.
