Heard he was badly injured, anyone know what happened to him?

Stretchered off in first half, didn't hear anything else

Looked like a very nasty injury, Sheffield intercepted a pass & sped towards our half & Richie was our last line of defence & put his body on the line. He tackled the Sheffield player & stopped the break but was injured in the process.
He didn't move for ages & looked badly hurt.
Full marks to the player he tackled, who realised how badly Richie was injured & did not untangle himself from the tackle until the medical team arrived.

He was down and out for a good 8 minutes. Didn't move.

Then to rub it in, the referee for some reason decided the incident merited a penalty to sheffield. Unbelievable.

Ref by sounds of it had already given the penalty for holding on. Donny player was apparently kicking out until his team mates got to him told him mathers was injured which is when he stopped. Penalthy had already been awarded. Harsh rule but that's the game, bit like if injured player carrying the ball let's go before ref blows whistle then it's a knock on injury or not

Utter nonsense. Did you actually see the incident? The referee failed to identify that Mathers has been knocked out cold by the initial impact. And promptly penalised him for holding down. Crazy.

It could have been worse - the ref had his hand in his pocket and I actually thought he was going to bin him for being unconscious, had he not been out cold he would have been yellow carded.

Does anyone know the extent of the injury? Will he be out for long?

I stand by my comment, as the player who he had tackled obvioulsy did not know he was out cold how the heck do you expect the ref to spot it. As said on here, and yes I was only listening to the radio, the ref was going for his card to sin bin for a pro foul. The fact he was injured sounded like it was not obvious! that comes from the commentators, once ref has blown for the penalty then he will always give it, its harsh but like I said same as a dropped ball if whitle is not blown then even though the player might be injured its a knock on, sorry fella laws of the game.
