I am still in a state of utter shock as to the attendance declared for the CC match and it started me thinking that the club looks like it is being run into the ground, either deliberately or by chance.

5 Home games into the first new season as the Broncos v.2 and the average gates have dropped 15% icon_eek.gif Now I know Gus has gone on the Radio and blamed the teams abject performances for this, but it would seem that no effort is being made to arrest this alarming decline in fans at games. ...if you remove the first game back as the Broncos the average gate is 2,112...........nearly 40% down.

If they manage to maintain the seasons average at 2,674, the club will take 89,115 LESS in ticket revenue than 2011................................300k less than 2006 icon_frustrated.gif

No effort was made to attract fans to the CC game...instead, they locked up most of the ground and accepted that they were going to get a poor gate.......that is, in my honest opinion, borderline negligence and totally unacceptable. Whitehaven got more fans to their CC game..... icon_biggrin.gifEPRESSED:

If the club get an away draw in the CC on Monday, June 9th will be the next "home" game.......if the team have lost the 4 games up to then, does anyone expect a bumper gate for Widnes?

No fans = no interest from sponsors or investors = a downward spiral = less fans = etc etc etc...

There is a Direct link between the number of fans at games and the ability of the club to survive once David Hughes walks away.....and it seems to the casual observer that the club don't seem to understand or care about this....they paid rent for the Stoop on Sunday.........why not try and at least break even?

Are Widnes and Wigan running their clubs into the ground. 4000 at the most famous club in the world and 3000 for a scouse derby. Thats negligence.

I don't think that's the right approach but just for your record, I believe the Widnes-Saints tickets were priced extortionatly and thats why no one turned up. Its a trait of the Challenge Cup that attendances drop and I'm sure we could name many reasons for this but I won't start that off.

Why didn't Widnes reduce ticket prices? We're in a poor financial climate and the majority of Widnes and Saints fans will probably have ST's and the cost of £20 and £22 (Widnes' usual ticket prices) were a little high for a televised cup tie. After a nit of maths, Widnes have done the following based on £20 tickets; Going on the basis that all 3,069 have paid £20 (I know that may not be the case) to get in, Widnes have made £61,380. Why not reduce the tickets to £15? Going on their last home attendanc of 5,687 that works out as £85,305. That's an increase of £23,925 based on a 25% reduction in ticket price.

They probably had done all their dough at Aintree in the preceding days.

I respect you for the commitment you have to turning the club around and some of you ideas, I agree with many, but thread after thread is just the same! it becomes repetitive.

Perhaps! with everything on sporting this past weekend and the quality of the opposition it was felt it was money wasted doing any serious form of advertising or marketing, this season is looking like a complete right off, the main concern seems to be holding on to what we have got and looking at what support we attract with the on the road matches.

the club does seem disinterested in it's own survival but if it was a deliberate ploy you wouldnt splash out on the full (or near to) cap. Some decent players have been signed, it just hasnt been matched by 1% with work off the field though. Or on the field come to think of it icon_wink.gif
I can only assume the Stoop and the local area has been written off, they intend on playing somewhere else in London or thereabouts next year and then they'll put the money into marketing themselves. If they cant get a deal on a ground then they'll stay at the Stoop for a few more years and hopefully start making an effort.
It's irritating how a faction of those in the north can use the attendances to beat London over the head with, they completely ignore the fantastic work being done around the South East expanding the game and producing players, so hopefully someone at the club does in fact have a plan to boost them. If the Broncos do relocate next year and still sit on their hands then they might as well give up the ghost.
In the meantime just get yourself down to the Stoop, get some mates down, brainwash your families, buy some gear (when they sort out the sizes!) and enjoy what we've got - a fantastic sport in a decent setting, more fool the rest of London for not seeing that (although,of course, it might help if someone told them!!!)
On Saturday evening I was flicking through the channels and alighted briefly on ESPN and it was really weird - there was a game going on that looked a bit like Rugby but it was slow, boring and involved a lot of pushing about and stoppages and kicking and clapping. It was at the Stoop and the place was packed. The home team were wearing what looked a bit like our old home kit. I'm not sure if I actually dreamt it all but if not why anyone with the gift of sight and a functioning brain would prefer that to what we've got is beyond me. They're a bit weird down here icon_wink.gif

It must be frustrating for you lot knowing how popular Rugby League is in the London area and only getting small gates! The slumping economy has'nt helped but I just get the feeling there must be a couple of thousand fans that can be coaxed along. Does your club try to encourage local teams and their families to games with reduced tickets etc? Surely some of the young lads playing amateur rugby need to have a team to SL support. How many amateur teams are there in London and surrounding areas?

I think the link below may help to answer your question Unknownlegend!

www.londonrl.com/clubs

Most of these clubs have teams at most age groups up to and including 'Open age'. Others are heading in that direction.

One difficulty is getting the young un's to travel and require mum and dad for a lift and this does not happen, for many which involves a long distance either by car or public transport. Open age teams generally play at the same time as the Broncos. London is a big place and LB support is rather spread out. The issue is one of attracting local support to attend.

The community and amateur young players are vital for long term success, how many amateur RL clubs are there in the Twickenham area?

Depends what you term the "area" but within 10 miles radius there are the following:

Elmbridge Eagles
Hammersmith Hill Hoists
South London Storm (just)
West London Sharks
Croydon Hurricanes
Staines Titans
Elmbridge

What disturbs me is that they seem to be able to make a hash now of simple things. Just from yesterday:

1. The nonsense over having to return the Leyton tickets

2. The Dewsbury team being read out before kick off to a dance music cacophony so it was impossible to hear it.

3. The club's website being incapable of putting up the team that actually played for us.

None of this should be difficult for a professional outfit.
