On BnA tonight TR said Rob Powell had left the club to seek alternate work.

I wonder if he is leaving the sport?

A shame but not surprised. He was utterly useless for the 1st XIII and bought us nothing but misery but I'm sure he would have had the experience to guide some academy players onto better things.

No disrespect to RP for leaving, because it must have been impossible for him to look most of the squad in the eye after the massive recent turn around in fortunes. Since he left the team has played better, tightened up in defence, played with a little more flare in attack and from what I have read/heard/seen, look like they are enjoying themselves.

That said, the game itself can't afford to lose people like RP...,maybe the RFL could employ him as a coach/embassador for the sport in the SE & London regions....let's hope he stays in the game.

Still think he has a lot to offer working with young people in development, hope the RFL have spoken with him, yes aim high in life but if only more would accept what their real abilities are nothing wrong being an assistant coach or working with the youth in the game if that is your real level and true capability.

I wish him well. If he really thinks he can cut it as a coach, he should try a Championship side and go on from there.

The right call. RP shouldn't have been thrust into SL in the first place, he should have started lower down (as, for example, Joe Mbu has done) and built up experience. I hope he can still do this - but it's right that he does it away from the Broncos.

One could reasonably assume that Rob Powell has a clause in his contract which means that he continues to be paid/employed for a future time period following a reorganization in the company.

That would explain why he is still there but seemingly without any duties at present.

The club would have been wiser to simply put him on gardening leave till the end of the season rather than just a fortnight and suggest he is coming back.

Almost any reappointment is fraught with difficulties no matter how keen all parties are for it to work.

The only two sensible moves for the club were:

1) Reinstate Powell as full-time Assistant Coach
2) Promote Michael Howell to full-time Assistant Coach and give Powell the under 20s role

But the new Head Coach next season will probably want his own Assistant or Assistants so it does not make sense for either of these two to take one of these roles in 2012. Powell doesn't want to be removed as Assistant Coach and why would Howell take the role when it may be very short term?

If he was Rob Purdham rather than than Rob Powell you could imagine creating a role as a kind of club ambassasdor or media work. The reality is that he has not created a positive media profile so that is out.

I don't think anyone would want a high calibre coach and person like Phil Jones removed to give Powell a job.

At 31 with a Masters Degree he could create an alternative career for himself and you can only imagine his next role in Rugby League to be part-time.

With his track record of results it is most likely that he will be lost to the game unless he is prepared to get involved with one of the new clubs or as a volunteer I'd suggest as he'd be an improbable hire for another professional team.

On the positive side for Rob Powell will be that he can state to a potential employer that he was responsible for selection, management and development of a 25 man squad at a Super League club as well as being actively involved in other football programmes throughout the Club.

Something will turn up in the future; if you can't be good be lucky!

I hope he stays in the game. Perhaps he can get a head coaches job at one the new clubs coming into championship 1 next season. He will need to start somewhere to build his confidence again, as i would imagine at the moment its shot to pieces.

Unrealistic. There are coached around who have had succes at CC level and super league level who are seeking work because they reached a point where they couldnt maintain their success. Why would they give the job to Powell instead who has been a disaster from day one. Im not giving you a job as recruitment manager mate.

Former London Broncos head coach Rob Powell has left the Super League club by mutual consent.

The 32-year-old was relieved of his duties last month but the club announced that Powell would stay on in another role.

However his departure has now been confirmed in a club statement.

"London Broncos Rugby League have agreed to allow Rob Powell to leave the club by mutual consent. We wish Rob every success for the future," it read.

Powell originally joined the Broncos as assistant coach in January 2007 and then took the top job in November 2010.

He is now actively seeking work for another coaching role in Super League or below.

Former London head coach and chief executive Tony Rea has been in interim charge at The Stoop since Powell's exit as coach in July, and the club are still looking for a new permanent boss.
