The better side won, and has been pointed out the score probably flattered us but I am not too despondent.
Its difficult to gauge when you sit behind the sticks but I got the impression the Rovers defensive line speed was super charged and it didn't allow us any time to progress; this combined with their excellent ruck management meant we were struggling to make any metres. On the other hand we lost the collision, failed to slow their play the ball and our defensive organisation at times was poor.
On the plus side a decent travelling band I reckon over 100, with plenty of faces I had not seen before, home or away and for the first 20mins very vocal !
A bit of a reality check here, Hull KR are the best team in this division. Threw up a few points though.
If we were really serious about a Super League push it should have been us strenghtening with bringing in Justin Carney, we need him more than HKR for a realistic chance. Really proud of how the team has played this year without trying to buy our way back to Super League, but we really need an extra boost to upset the odds stacked against us in this system.
Thought we would switch around our Channing/Dixon, Kear/Williams pairings so Kear/Williams were always facing Carney. Surprised we left Channing/Dixon to take a battering. They did do better than I feared but not great.
The loss of Ioane and Barthau meant we were less of a machine than normal, and with them might have hung on a bit longer against HKR. Hope they are both in all our middle 8 games.
We now have an easier run in than our challengers for the top four with Toulouse and Halifax yet to play each other and both have to play HKR and Fev. Yesterday's result though now mean HKR can play the academy for the last 3 games though and still be top, might be tempting for them but hope thay won't want to be 'undercooked' at the start of the middles 8 and still put out their strongest sides.
Disappointing as the performance was yesterday, especially the first half. I would expect us to win our remaining three games and therefore finish second.
In the Middle 8s we might pull out a few surprises. Promotion I think is unlikely. Whatever happens, let us enjoy the ride.
