Quote: gardener "Why should they have to investigated further before London came out with the statement? Perhaps he hid from his new employers what was going on and maybe his performance was not what he has promised the club.He was working one day a week, perhaps he never turned up on time?
He had history at other clubs with off the field problems.Maybe London thought "Lets give him a chance" and he did not reach Londons expectations?'"
The club has a duty of care to its employees. Money/Wages are increasingly seen as secondary to employees seeking "good employment" whereas working conditions, benefits etc are now a key element in selecting a prospective employer. If Long had "history" and the club were "taking a chance" then I would suggest that a certain amount of research and background checks would/should have been made. As it is, if he was "late" or "didn't turn up" then most employers would at first enquire as to 'why" and try to discover the root cause and offer a pathway to sorting any problems out. The Statement from the club is curt and to the point......and as a result, the subsequent suicide bid coming to light makes them look bad, regardless of whether they actually are or not.
This is not an attack on the club, but it does point to someone not really thinking through what they were going to say or how they were going to sound.

Insightful as ever.
