I completely agree! so many young players over the years he has nurtured and developed, have expressed a real strong opinion of disappointment in the last few days.
We were lead to understand that The RFL will be taking over the London Academy side, has that gone through? is it still going to be a 10 team Academy, with only one side for such as Hull, and of course London, in my eyes one of the biggest mistakes the game will make if it has been approved, all due to the lack of funds by The RFL. Should the RFL have not assured that Phil Jones remained? though in a period of doubt we will all agree that Phil has to make a living financially, our deep loss is Warrington's gain.
I understand that the Academy had their first training session on Monday under the watchful eye of James Massara. The Roehampton base was closed on Friday last with the gym equipment moved to Feltham CC and the rest of the clubs assets locked in a container. I also understand the only club employees left are Steve M, Mackay and James M and seven contracted players remain, six home-grown and one old head.
I understand that the RFL are looking to change the whole philosophy of junior development, removing the Regional Player Development Camps and looking for the talent identification effort to be undertaken by the clubs, working with their community clubs - possibly one of the issues for the Broncos management. I also understand that the Championship 1 clubs are taking player development pathways into their own hands and this could impact on the way London Junior League currently operates.
