Walcott didn't play and it was a waste of squad place. Erikson had so little confidence in him that even as we were going out and badly in need of some X factor, he didn't even think that bunging on Walcott for the last 20 minutes was worth a shot.

Not a good example of a decent governing body (not that the FA made that decision).

The point I was trying to make was that putting Dixon in the squad would have been great PR, and may have got the game a few national headlines which it needs.

I doubt it. The reason why the Walcott story was headline news was that enough people cared about the team selection and knew enough about soccer to find it a bizarre decision. Neither is really true of RL.
