The only British centres in the last 20 years to come up anywhere near Gidley's standard are Connolly and Newlove in their pomp, so comparing Clubby is a bit of a stretch.
In another side Clubb would probably have converted to a proper second-row by now, we've seen how explosive he can be in that position, with his strong running, using his strenth, speed and determination to go through people. But that's not our style, outside of a handful of games in the first half of last season we lack the creativity (and the orgnisers) to play a fluent attacking game which could make use of such a player. BM signings have made very clear the kind of plodding, grafting, attritional game plan we're going to play (which served us so well in the second half of last season, not!), with our unrivalled wealth of middle of the road second-row forwards.
