Chase to Hull immediately was an oppertunistic punt by the Hull club, and fair play to them.

Anything else will be part of their structured plans, and that will not include a player that is settled, happy and contracted to another club for 2 years...

You can see Brough and Chase as a pairing, but whether they would be an effective pairing is another matter.
There is lots of speculation around halfbacks, Hull are obviously looking for 2, but most of the decent halves are tied up to some kind of deal.

However a contract is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, Hull are showing that they want Chase and are willing to payout players contracts, so they maybe willing to do the same for Brough too.

An interesting one is Lee Briers, don't think anyone has signed him yet, not even Warrington. There are a few at Saints that would like Lee back in the Red Vee, but I can't see us getting another halfback for at least another year unless Lance decides that he does not fancy another 3 years.

So it would not surprise me for Lee to have a final fling somewhere else next year.

Regarding Brough, I would be extremely disappointed if we were to let him go. I think we'd be pretty much screwed without him.

Actually AP has just stated that we have 4 half back targets and all are currently under contract. One of them is Chase, the other three he wouldn't name (and rightly so).

The Chase deal isn't quite dead yet BTW. If the visa situation can be sorted relatively quickly he will join us next season. We will still sign another half back as well though - looks like Seymour isn't rated as good enough.

Well let's hope that the 2 you end up getting don't include Brough!

He's almost certainly one of the 4 targets - let's face it, the pool of quality HB talent in SL is pretty small and he's right there at or near the top. Whether Huddersfield would entertain selling him is another matter. Can't see it myself but it's been a strange year for transfers.

I'd be very surprised if Lee Briers left Wire now. The club will almost certainly offer him a well-paid coaching role when he finally retires. Meanwhile he's still playing in a team that's getting to finals. I reckon he'll get another year's playing contract then start sitting next to Tony Smith.

Posters on the Widnes board are pretty certain that Tickle will be with them for next season. Personally I'm not so sure because we get rumours of Tickle leaving nearly every year and he's still with us.


On the topic of Brough, I think you'd be naive to think that Hull wouldn't target him as we have said that we are wanting a top quality halfback, and Brough is one of the best halfbacks in the league. We have also said that we're willing to pay a fee which suggests that we wouldn't be put off by the fact that he's currently contracted.

However, there are 2 clubs in a deal and Huddersfield would have to accept the offer and there's no guarentee that that would happen as he's one of your key players. All depends on how much your Chairman/CEO values him at and how much Hull would be willing to pay.

Hull have said that they have a shortlist of 4 halfback targets and that they will be signing 2 of them. It seems like 3 of these targets are Chase, Brough and Holdsworth, with the 4th being unknown. One is very close to signing, too.
