Let`s put this in perspective. Do you honestly think Wire would have been as loud as we were if we had got beat? And don`t you think some of our fickle fans would have left before the team had got their medals? Of co they would. Stop beating yourselves up and consentrate on the play offs. If you get to OT then the Wire neutrals will be shouting for yous (unless it`s against us icon_eek.gif )

Quote: Fax4Life "Hey I have been going to the Cup Final for 30 years and there was not 30K from Warrington.
The neutrals like me (hate us all you like but we go and support the game of RL no matter who is at the Final) always make up about 60% of the gate, there were noticeably less in numbers this year I admit but by my reckoning thats 45K and Huddersfield had about 15% so 12K so there were 19K from Warrington.
Not an expert on crwods I admit but in the old Wembley days thats when teams took 30k when the crwods were 90K plus, not any more sadly.

I have to say for such a big town there should really have been more from Huddersfield or is it just a football town now? Poor turnout.'"

The OP is as disappointed as anyone who has followed the Giants for a long time but answer this question before you continue bagging the fans.

Do we have more fans now than we did 2, 5, 10 or 20 years ago icon_confused.gif:

Do we have more fans going to away games than we did 2,5,10 20 years ago icon_confused.gif:

Do we have more fans singing than 2, 5, 10 or 20 years ago icon_confused.gif:

Is there any shame in us taking 15,000 plus to a cup final icon_confused.gif:

Are we a team that is moving forward icon_confused.gif:

The answer to all the above is yes. We would all like it to be better and over time it will be.

There were more people singing yresterday than i can remember at ANY Giants game i have ever been to. Dont compare the issue of the atmosphere yesterday with some mythical brilliant support we took to Blackpool or Widnes.

Bagging the fans is about as useful as bagging the team.

It is bad enough with other teams slagging us off without our fans turning into a team of self loathers

Absolutely DG

Bagging some sections of the support because "they arent vocal enough" is just crap really.

Sometimes I sing and shout, sometimes I dont, but I sure as well wont be told I am not vocal enough.

It sounds like I am being told I am not as "good" a supporter as someone else and that I wont take from anyone.

I just got the 30k from someone else saying id say there were 25k warrington fans which is still good, regarding huddersfield people need to get off there fans backs, they have had poor fan base for along time n now thanks to offers, better form, there attracting more fans, the more fans in the game the better. hope huddersfield continue to improve

We hardly inspired them did we. To be honest I was as bad as anyone for that Huddersfield chant....I didn't care as long as I was shouting something....also taking into account I was fasting so not allowed to eat, drink or SWEAR!!! That was the hardest bit of it I'll tell you! Anyway, to thoe of you who did try well done and hold your head's up and for those of you who just sat there looking moody go suck a lemon!!!'"

Whether they sang or not they still paid money to go, they probably bought merchandise from the club and even coach fares all of which will help the club continue to grow by putting money in the kitty. Surely the more fans we have the more money in the clubs pocket the better the players the better the team the more chances we will get at going to semi finals and finals and make even more money. We have, as many of us know, have had a bad run for many years and some fans got so used to not being vocal for fear of being laughed at by opposition that it is still hard for some to come to terms that we are now a good team and capable of beating anyone on our day. Money in the kitty is how Bradford, Saints, Wigan and Leeds all became great clubs by having the ability to buy the better players and therefore gaining success. Success means more fans and so the cycle goes on.

Now can we all stop moaning and bickering and concentrate on what we have left this season - the play offs. The cup has gone, it belongs to Warrington until next year. There is however still a cup on offer. Next up Celtic....then Wigan then the play offs.....COME ON YOU GIANTS!

Was sat in the warrington end and couldnt hear any singing from ur side at all, a lot of the wire fans tho were really drunk and that added to them shouting louder.
We saw loads of huddersfield fans travelling down in cars with just a small sticker in back window to say we are on way to wembley and when we got there there was alot of fans with just challenge cup final tshirts on.
Obviously those were the ones who dont go to matvhes/own shirts etc..they probably dont even know names of any players so may not have shouted for them thru fear of embarrasment at getting it wrong.

Alot of giants fans are lot older than wire fans as well so again will probably just sit there quietly .
Coming back down wembley way after match they were still trying to sell the giants scarfes and they had sold out of wolves scarfes before match.

We still saw loads of wire fans with tops on on sunday in town centre but we didnt see a single giants top, dont know if many stayed over or if you all went back same day, but there was certainlya lot of you at leicester forest services on way down at about 9 oclock.

Having read the first few pages and couldn't be bothered with the last 3, here's may take - and I apologise if I repeat anything that's already been said.

Point 1. In terms of atmosphere, I prefer going to away matches. We singers/chanters are all together and - when we are winning, playing well, or in with a shout - the noise is excellent. However, when we are losing badly, it is only the small, hardcore singers who continue to be vocal.

At the Galpharm there are probably as many singers in the Riverside as there are opposite us. However, we are spread out whereas in the Britannia there are all together.

Point 2. It's the old 'lost generations' point. 'New' people coming to watch will either be new, or supporters from years gone by. For the latter category, singing at rugby matches is a new experience. It didn't use to happen.

Point 3. Put 1 & 2 together and it's hardly surprising that we were lacking the noise that Wire were making. I started the game in a singing mood, but the team's performance soon put paid to that. Yes, we do need noise to lift the team, but as has already been stated, the team has to play its part too.

As the first half wore on it became increasingly obvious that it wasn't going to be our day and even I just sat there totally flat and almost devoid of any emotion.

Wire were on top, their fans made the noise. How many would have been singing had we been on top? [A rhetorical question, by the way. I don't want to start a slanging match with Warrington because I know they would have made .][isome[/i noise.

Interesting - and slightly odd - analysis!! I didn't realise that the stickers you had in your car or the clothes you wear to a match say anything about how long you have been supporting a club icon_confused.gif

I agree with this and, like Ivor, cannot be a4sed reading 7 pages of stuff that is basically dumping on our own when it wont change anything for the reasons the above poster has highlighted.

Saints in the semi we were magnificent and so were the team. In the Final neither were.

You certainly were. You outsung us by a country mile and we were 2:1 in numbers. But we were relatively silent probably for the same reason your guys were relatively silent: our team was losing and it's tough to keep going with the vocal support when your team is losing. But that didn't stop many Saints fans bagging other Saints fans for not being vocal enough at the semi!

You don't need to be making lots of noise to be a good fan (although I do agree it must at times be a good boost for the team to have the fans behind them vocally) but not everyone is a singer for whatever reason and if that is how they are happy at the games then so beit - as long as they leave those who do want to sing to sing then no problems!

Quote: SaintsFan "Don't be too hard on your fans. Wembley is a tough gig and it can be overwhelming. I remember last year I lost my voice shouting and chanting and stuff but Saints fans were hardly if at all heard on the TV because 75% of the crowd were shouting for Hull! Wire were always going to take a big crowd down - they pull good crowds generally - and add to that the neutrals who would have been clapping every try and cheering for no-one, and it was always going to be tough for your fans.'"
Are you serious?Wembley is a 'tough gig' and can be 'overwhelming' and it was always going to be 'tough' for your fans? They are just supporters required to shout the odd chant from the stands, not professional performers on debut at the Royal Albert Hall.Get real, you sound daft.
