shame woolford not here yet.
not so sure about the 'feel good factor' about town staying up, what with all the vile some of their fans give us

| It was touch and go at the start but the lads came good.
I think what started our turn round was Wakefield opting to run (more than once) instead of taking two points and us putting in a great defensive session to keep them out. Got our heads up and theirs down.
Matty English- brilliant! His enthusiasm lifts the squad- that tackle on Fifita? Threw down the gauntlet. Having these youngsters come in and put in MOM performances has helped galvanise our squad.
Wakey have a big pack and are obviously used to bullying teams- they are t used to little guys like brough, o brien and Mamo giving it them with aggression and they didn’t know how to cope with it. They pooped their pants. Mamos tackle- Funny as!
Mamo was brilliant defensively tonight- his desire to get to the runner and try to make the tackle allowed the others to cover a pass or offload - Mellor ran hard, Rankin safe as houses at the back and some of turners passing was excellent. We scrambled so well for each other and really worked hard to deny Wakefield.
We still need to improve a LOT - but the willingness to work for each other is a massive positive.

| Said a while ago, Matty English might not be the biggest, but he is an old school prop forward in a young body, he has all the skills and knows how and when to use what he has. That lad has a big future ahead of him. Got to say it was a toss up between him and ukuma for MOM as both were excellent and the best forwards on the pitch. Mamo was great defensively at centre today, tackled everyone around the legs. stopping them dead.
I did think the stop, start nature of the game due to the over officiating of the ref really played into our hands, as early doors Wakey were really moving the ball well and i thought we were in for a thumping. Glad to see us show some grit and determination though and actually look a little more dangerous in the opposition 20.

| Was really pleased that Matty English got the MOM, and he was absolutely made up! Glad to see the Giants playing with a lot more spirit and determination. Still making a lot of errors and giving silly penalties away but a vast, vast improvement on the rugby we have seen earlier this season......

| How we were only two points behind at half time I’ll never know - should have been about 30. Wakey really mismanaged that first half.
Dan smith at hospital for X-rays and scans. Dislocated elbow with potentially other damage. Looked painful!

| Broughy and Mamo really played their part in defence against one of the biggest packs in the league!
Was definitely expecting a loss tonight, not getting carried away as Wakey bombed quite a few chances!
Could not really understand why, when we were down to 12 men that Wakey showed no urgency to form the scrum to stop the clock!

| Thorman has said woolford may not now be here in time for magic weekend.
Could play into our hands. Thorman will be desperate to coach a win in his “home town” stadium.

| Congrats on the win. I remember a wakey fan posting after the friendly with you 2 which I think you lost by 2 points : "that's as close to a win as you'll get against us all year", couldn't help but fancy hudds to win last night with brough and McGillvary returning and with how massively inconsistent wakefield have been this year, plus I really like chris thorman. Brought in some youngsters and they've contributed well this last month or so, plus he hasn't sugar coated things when you've been off it. Surely he is staying as assistant ?

Chris has our club right at his heart - he is passionate about the giants. It hasn’t been confirmed he is staying on- but it will be our loss if he doesn’t!

Seems to have grown a lot as a coach since taking over. It's also given him a platform to show what type of person he really is.
Would be such a loss to the giants if he didn't stay. Seems to be in regular contact with Woodford, so hopefully he will stay.
I don't think many coaches with zero experience like Chris could do what they have done since he took over. Yeah, we had some big losses, but overall there had been a clear change.
He deserves a lot of credit for his efforts.

| Exiting times at the Giants moving forward, by far the best crop of youngsters we have ever produced. We just need to bring in a couple of quality senior players in the off season to complement them.
Matty English is the best young forward I have ever seen at this club. His enthusiasm and aggression seems to lift the team. Loved him sticking it to the Wakey fans after his try. His interview with West Yorkshire Sport last night sums the lad up. First name on my team sheet for me next week.
Mamo is much more suited to the edges than full back. I still think a Wardle/Mamo combo is the way forward when he returns from his ban.
Anyone know how long Ollie Roberts is out for?

I think it’s doing him a disservice saying he has zero experience. He coached York -although not altogether successfully, however, that year was no relegation and York made no signings.
But he has shown how could he can be as a coach- The youngsters who have been successfully integrated into our squad in the last few weeks have been Coached and mentored by Chris Thorman. Their development is hugely attributable to him. Matty English being a prime example. Look at how good he is at just 20 years of age. He has another year on his contract but I’d be surprised if that isn’t extended with a longer deal very soon. He’s the sort of player no one would mind being handed 4 years!
Was great for him to score last night- under the sticks in front of opposition fans against his hometown!

In the legends bar before the game Ollie Roberts told Brian Blacker he could have played last night if push came to shove he wanted to play but Thorman told him to give it another week to make sure he is fully fit so hopefully will be back for the Magic weekend
