Murphy is dependable wherever he plays, he isn't good at centre

He is good at wing - but lacks real pace

I'm a fan of Murphy but realistically he isn't a top four winger (damn valuable squad man)

I would say he's a top 4 winger.. Depending what you look for in a winger. He's safe under a high ball, his positional sence defensively and in attack is great. Just because he doesn't step his way through the entire opposition like Burgess or Brisco doesn't make him not top four.

Oh to add. He's constantly in the team that gets to the top 4. That kind of makes him being a top 4 winger a reality.

What do coaches look for in a winger? They may only have to make 2 or 3 tackles in a game although they may have to be important tackles (He's made some poor errors in defence in the last few games IMO)- so perhaps not top of the list. He's safe under the high ball? Well he doesn't take those often in his role on the wing as Jerry is the one that usually drops back.and I wouldn't say he's anything special at contesting for a high ball. He's probably better at both those things than Broughton. It seems as if those are the attributes that Anderson is looking for.
But for me a winger should be able to score tries- Perhaps that's why we haven't been putting games to bed as we don't have that scoring ability with pace out wide on the other side that Broughton could bring us. Anderson is taking the safe option in Murphy.

He is second top try scorer this season and scored 20 tries when we finished top of the league in 2013 so he can certainly score tries.

wherever you play murphy he will give you at least 8/10 performance every time too!

wardle back in the second row for me and then can put broughton back on the wing, id prefer connor at centre and murphy on the wing but connor has gone for the season

The mark of a good centre used to be the number of Try's his winger scored, He can't score if he doesn't get the passes, and to be honest it's not the best part of Wardle's game.

Your stats show something has changed since 2013, and not for the better. I think some people at least, have grasped that.

Broughton as far as I know was brought to the club for his speed, Now he is being dropped because he isn't scoring, and yet you could count the passes he has had with a chance to show his pace, on one hand.

Whatever position Murphy plays he putts himself about, He makes mistakes like they all do at times , First name on the squad sheet for me.

The Giants poor scoring record doesn't start at the Wingers.

Indeed he has- I just think if Broughton had the chance -ie got the ball in space either from a pass or kick he could score more.... After all surely that's why we signed him!!!

What is Broughton better at than Murphy?
He has more speed that's it!
Murphy is the full package bar the 100 metre tries.

As mentioned a hundred times before we don't play a game that suits Broughton. Play to our strengths and its Murphy every day of the week for me. Great player.

This must be the first time I have agreed with Fartown and praising a player!!! Let's get behind the lads on Friday a must win.

don't think any of our backs are particularly bad players, they all do a job, they all have different strengths and weaknesses as do any player in any sport.
yes they all make mistakes at times, but for me Jerry and Murphy are 2 of the most consistent performers, both different types of players, both with good strength, Murphy possibly a better defender,Jerry a better attacker, Broughton is a very good player and doesn't let us down when he plays, he is unfortunate that he has 2 consistently good performers in front of him.

for me though, Jerry and Murph would be the 2 of the first names on my team sheet.

I'll be looking for some more of what we did in the first 20 minutes against Wigan. If we can get on the outside of them, we can do the same against Catalan.
They are a tough, roughhousing sort of side and Henderson will be out to wind everyone up , We weathered all that in France, so we know exactly what to expect.

We may have lost last week but there were some good signs in that performance, Don't know if Carney is back or not, If he is, he is the danger man. We need to win this game to stop the doubts creeping in, Need Eorl and Huby on for as long as they can do.

yeh crabtree and huby can do the big mins and also with lawrence in the middle we are rock solid, kopczak does well in his stints... smith has been only steady so far, want to see more from leeming this time and less brainfart moments from robinson

obviously that's the way baloo wants to go, i'm wondering whether to keep Huby and Eorl on the bench, maybe they will add or the keep the momentum up?
