Quote: Jo Jumbuck "You seem to know a lot more than Durham does, Daz'"

The decision to give Robbo a new two year contract when it was obvious he was crocked was never explained.Agent Power? Anderson always put the blame on contact renewals on the Powers that be, upstairs.
Never rated the bloke, miserable and a grunted.
Seems he was recruited for England perfect Yes man.

Quote: GIANT DAZ "Larne didn't want to stay at Wigan, he didn't feel accepted and that he fitted in, he felt like an outsider there, he wanted to come back here as he always felt at home here, Paul Anderson didn't have him in his plans and therefore made him look for another club.
Larne wanted to play here and wanted to get his career back on track but was left with no choice. Shame he was messed about as he was a cracking player for us in the past and still had a lot to offer.'"

If that is true and I have no reason to doubt it whichever way you look at that we brought back a player who the coach could not wait to get shot of but we wait until 10 weeks into the new season. So when you know how ridiculous that sounds did you back anderson to the hilt when he was dragging the team into the ground

Larne didn't know how things would turn out, he presumably wanted to play for us and do his best....sometimes what a player wants is out of their hands.

And no i didn't i said i'd give him time to see if things would change and they didn't so i got to the point myself where i thought change would be best.
I still do regarding some aspects of the club too.

Quote: FLYINGPROP "Im a little lost as to what this has to do with Stone or coaching or am i missing something?

Is there a topic hiding somewhere titled fans getting on each others t*ts that has all our Ricks coaching abilities been discussed and the two have got mixed up?

On a brighter note looking forward to next season and getting my season ticket and hopefully see some movement in and out of the club to freshen things up'"

Dont want to see you lost OZ ! icon_wink.gif
But you cant start reading the book(topic) at Chapter 10
The topic was about Rick Stone and his coaching
Daz explained originally that he (Rick Stone)was going to speak at the suipportersassociation meeting and take questions from the floor that could (I understand) outline his future strategy \
There then followed various opinions on where that was leading and differing opinions about his statements between members and non members of the Supporters Association
I then offered an opinion that whilst he/the club had requested that the information was not for public consumption, the info/statements provided would be subject to " careful editing" and phraseology prior to release ---(if they "didnt want it to be "general knowledge ) as had been implied ................................

I can understand your confusion but (in my opinion of how and why it went off at a slight tangent) thats a brief summary (I hope) before you entered the fray.................
HTH! icon_wink.gif

I've watched his coaching for several years in firstgrade and the lower grades at the Knights.
He started his career at the Knights as an assistant coach to Michael Hagan, after having a very good year of coaching in the Queensland cup.
When Hagan moved on, Stone stayed as an assistant to Brian Smith and worked with Trent Robinson and Tony Smith as assistants to Brian.
He was then given the job as head coach and employed Craig Sandercock as his assistant.
In his two years as head coach he had very limited resources and a small payroll to play with, but managed to put together a competitive side, who made the first round of finals.
When the club was bought by a billionaire, the first thing he did was pay 1.4 million dollars to buy the best coach he could in Bennett, and Stone was given a payrise to stay on as assistant, but Bennett brought in his own guys and gave Stone the reserve grade side.
Stone took the reserve grade side to a grandfinal loss after they had come second last the year before.
When Bennett left, Stone was handed a poison chalice because players like Beau Scott, Joey Leilui, Darius Boyd and several others had signed to play under Bennett, and basically dogged it under Stone, and ruined his career in the process. He was replaced because he had lost the player group, but I don't think anyone would have done any different.
In his years at the Knights he had some very ordinary squads in both firsts and reserves, and I believe he over achieved for the squads he had in every year except his last, and that was beyond his control.
As a coach, he takes a very steady approach. He works out the strengths of the players he has, settles on his best line up, and works on game plans to make the best of what he has available.
His teams tend to start the year slowly and improve steadily over the season as they learn to play together and as he makes gradual changes to make the team work better.
He doesn't make impulsive changes. He makes a plan at the start of the season and works to get the team playing the best football they are capable of.
I've seen his teams play several different styles. The firstgrade side who made the finals tended to throw the ball around and score a lot of tries in the outside backs, especially wingers Uate and Vuna. The reserve grade side he took to a grandfinal had a massive and dominant forward pack who basically bashed their way to the decider. He develops the game plan based on the players he has.

A useful insight roopy thanks.
We are all looking forward to seeing how he can rejuvenate our side!

Firstly Cheers Crackers for putting me straight icon_whisper.gif icon_cheers.gif , secondly Thanks Roopy for a great insight into a coach we don't really know much about, as a club we needed a change and someone to come in who didn't know the players to assess what they offer us, quite a few have gone stale and would benefit both player and club with a change of scenery. Like the sound of Mr Stone with what you have said and he has identified issues as soon as he got here that alot of fans could see and alot of other fans didnt want to admit and would have not changed a thing this season. icon_frustrated.gif icon_frustrated.gif icon_beat.gif icon_beat.gif

Shown better attacking structures under Stone in his short tenure than we witnessed for the past 4 seasons imho.

The new FB will be the key to further progress on attack,as they have to be ball handlers in this day and age.
