| Quote: John_D "Couple of handling errors and a couple of penalties, so I'm not going to go overboard, but it was a much, much better performance and for at least 75 minutes of the match. He finally looks up to speed after the well-documented lack of a pre-season. And if he was waiting for it to warm up, well it ain't gonna get much warmer than last night...
Oh, and first league double over Saints since the 1950s. They can't take that away from you.'"
Fair point and again our penalty count was high but think that is the case virtually every game and its not really coming back to hurt us....yet.

| We were very good in the 1st half when, to me, we got the game won, 2nd half we eased off, understandably considering we play again on Friday (madness !!) and allowed a very very poor Saints side to gain some respectability. I dont think we were in any danger of losing as we could have gone up a few gears if we needed to but it was an uneasy 15 minutes to watch.
Job done, 2 points in the bag at a low enough intensity to save bodies and energy for Friday.

It wasn't so bad last night. 7, I think. Always room for improvement, but less than one every ten minutes ain't so bad.

But as you say, we have HKR on Friday. No point going all out when the game was won when we only have a 4 day turn around.
[I suspect that if it had been closer, Lunty would have returned to the field. How impressive is he this season? Thank you Baloo for standing your ground and not giving in to NB last season!]

Looked to me as though he had a point to prove.
I don't know why, but most of the Refs were sat in the Free seats, Ganson, Ben Filtham, Uncle Albert and Sharpy, amongst others, perhaps that was why Silverwood was showing off in front of his mates, it may explain some of his decisions.
Thought Mr S had a decent game. Especially the Mullally/Gardner incident. He could easily have sent our man off. Thankfully he has no case to answer and Gardner is OK - well enough to be considered for selection this weekend.
Wardle's try is another point. I was convinced that he hadn't scored. Even the replays at the ground confirmed my decision. However, watching it on the SL Show, it clearly showed that Joe grounded the ball - albeit just. Well done Ian Smith.

| Good win lastnight and great to do the double over saints! how times have changed.
the game should of been over by half time with the murphy try that got disallowed due to the supposed bad tackle form mullally when gardner fell over
think we were abit guilty of overplaying though and saints made a mini comeback but job well done.
Taai put two massive hits in!
very good atmosphere lastnight too, the best ive known it at the giants in a long long time, lets keep it up.
was there a drum at the back of the brittania stand? seemed to help and also the barmy army chant went on for a while and the whole stand started to get involved and really enjoyed it!

This is exactly what i said, why risk injuries or having needless energy losses just for the sake of scoring a couple more tries to make the score look good when we play again in 4 days ?.

Was impressed with that how everyone joined in and it kept building back up too, thought the BR stand was pretty good last night - a lot more joining in than usual.

| Quote: John_D "Saints look utterly clueless with ball in hand. That has to be a major concern. As such, Brough was the difference on the night. Invention, trickery, an intelligent kicking game - all the things Saints lacked.
It was a decent battle up front - I like the look of young Walmsley and I don't remember LMS taking a backward step - but thought Fartown edged that as well. It was Ukuma Ta'ai's best game in claret and gold by some distance, especially on defence. Brett Ferres is having a storming season and Wardle gets better every time I see him.
Hard work done in the first half, manage the scoreboard in the second. That seems to be the plan and it seems to be working.'"
did you not see taai at widnes and bradford then , was pretty much awesome in those two games too if not more so than lastnight for me.

| Silverwood was very sympathetic to Saints last night. If anyone has the game recorded watch and listen to him, every set he was shouting to Giants players warning them (thereby slowing the line speed down, not a peep to Saints but did a couple of times have a word in the ear at breakdowns. Saints were very slow to clear the ruck often 4-5 seconds after calling the tackle complete, yet Robbo was pinged for holding on for what 1 second? If that was the standard Giants should have received another 20 penalties!!!!
Twice in the match he called zero tackle after Saints knocked on, only to not go back to the scrum, in the first half when Robbo kept it alive to Broughy whose offload to Grix was knocked on. Broughy queried that with Silverwood who then claimed his TJ said no saints knock on, " but you called zero tackle says Danny". second time late in the second half we forced a drop out, but a scrum on the Saints 10 is surely better.
I really do not think Silverwood should be allowed to Ref us after his behaviour saw him ejected from and then banned from the Stadium as a spectator.
As for the win, we did it in second gear, clearly put the cue on the rack early looking forward to Friday. If we were playing Sunday not Friday it would have been a similar score to first time we played them. Saints are a very ordinary side this year, and the Tinkerman looks familiarly confused.

must of been 3 times he was right there to give the try or no try but he went to the video ref, used too much imo, he would of had to make a decision if it wasnt there! and he had the best view

It was the correct decision, Mullally made contact with Gardner's head and it was therefore a high tackle. Thought the officials were pretty good to be honest.

Silverwood had to give a penalty as contact had been made with the head. That's the top and bottom of it, and your player has not been charged with anything.
Meanwhile, unlike the claim above, Gardner has not been cleared to play. He is suffering from concussion and will be assessed over time.
Well done on your win. It's only taken you 60 years to do the double on us again but good things come to those who wait, yes?

| The mullally/gardner incident was handled perfectly IMO. Glad it's no major damage to Ade as well. Nice to see both sets of fans stand to clap him all the way off too. Only in RL.
At the game I thought Silverwood let saint lay on a lot and loiter off side - and some if his holding penalties were hugely inconsistent. But he was probably equally bad
Our BIG problem was trying to score from every set when it went to 25-6, we tried to blow them away but without any patience or pressure and our errors let them back into the game
