Quote: bewareshadows "Was it just me or has Brough lost his spark. Yes he still has the banana kicks and it got Huddersfield a try. But he just looked fed up from start to finish. Ok he was injured at the finish so you can understand that. I'm not saying he played badly, but he just seamed a little chuffed off.'"

His ankle is still not 100% right so maybe that had something to do with it !

we seem to lack any real spark in attack and the forwards dont seem able to get on a roll anymore, a few months back we were, rightly, feared and respected for our brutal defence and our forwards, now we are a shadow of that.
as others who were there tonight have alluded to, we played well first 25 minutes but just completely lost our way in the final 3rd.
we seemed to lack urgency as well as any creativity and too many players are playing with injuries/niggles and are off form and lacking in confidence.
it's a massive ask to get our season back on track, sadly i think we are spent now.
fair play to the 200 or so of us who made it over and once again gave the team good backing for most of it,shame we had nothing to cheer about again.

Fair enough.

I thought he originally was back earlier than he was supposed to be.

Do you think the Nathan Brown signing only season by season has anything to do with Huddersfields mid season dips. It does seam to be the same each year. There is a period of will he stay won't he stay and Huddersfield fall off the wagon and find it difficult to get back to the high points of early in the year.

Good news for the rest of the league is this pattern is set to continue next year as he just refuses to nail down more than a year at a time.

We were keen & enthusiastic. Our commitment couldn't be faltered. On the whole our defence was OK.

We had no on-field organisation.

We seemed to lack a game plan.

We seem to lack on-field leadership.

We do have people who have the power to break a defensive line but for some reason either don't know how to, have not been coached how to, been told to run at different angles so they can't, or get the ball at a too-early receiver.

We have no-one with that 'little bit extra', someone who with a magic touch who can ignite a spark of individuality, someone who is unpredictable.

The term 'headless chickens' springs to mind.

God it was painful watching our attack, little to no structure, players picking wrong lines, halves taking wrong options, and afraid to pass the ball when there was a possibility of an overlap. How many times did we go to the kick behind their 'd' line early in the count.Saints had no trouble with our moves, they read them like a book we were that predictable.

The galling thing was that we dominated Saints in the strength battle,it seems like we when we get one aspect of our game right, the other aspect drops away and vice versa.

Thought Luke R. was outstanding in most of what he did,Jerry made his usual tough metres,(shame the one error led to a try),Doof had a good spell in half 2,Fooey good defensively.Maybe we should get the ball to the Fooster more when in the op red zone,he can make things happen, while at the mo some of the others are struggling.Anyway changes for next week as Broughy looks like he's out for another spell.

Also if decoy runners hang around in our line, run into them, had we done that 2 of their tries would have been chalked off.

Suppose the pressure if off now in terms of a top 4 finish, maybe they can relax a bit more and get some self belief back.

just to pick up on what IVOR said about receiving the pass.
is it just me or has anyone else that our forwards dont seem to run onto the ball from a backwards pass? by that i mean charging in from a few metres out so that are at pace when receiving, they seem to almost receive a flat pass from a standing position, from where we were behind the sticks last night you could see this clearly, the forwards have got no momentum when hitting the line.
another thing, i think it was gahan i said it to at the game, we seem to run towards opposition defensive line in a kind of arcing run rather than straight on,whats that all about?
in terms of where we were at the start of the season we are miles away from that now.

Biggest difference for me is we go with 2 in the tackle as opposed to 3 earlier in the season.

We aint winning the ruck anymore

Decision making isn't quite right, I think Brough was trying too hard really but yeah, we lacked someone to take the game on and to direct the team.

Also early in the season our attack came from deep behind the advantage line, now we are playing it much flatter and flat attacks don't work any more.

Saints were coming from deep last night, Wire and Wigan attack from deep. We've started attacking flat.

That's what I was inferring. If Eorl, Griff, etc were at 3rd receiver, they would [should!] be standing further back giving them time to catch the ball when running at speed.

To be fair, for the opening part of the game, Huddersfield were really pinned in their own half. So there was little oppertunity to attack. When you did get down field, we moved forward in 1 line, which closed the distance between defense and attack, meaning from flat passes Huddersfield stuggled to get up any head of steam and so there was little chance to spin in the tackle and get any 2nd phase play.

Not to mention daft things like rolling the ball over your back on the Saints line after we where down to 12 men.

I still don't get why Clough got binned for decent, yet 30 seconds later huddersfield get marched back 10 meters. Surely even the ref can see the inconsistency in that.

rubbish again lastnight

saints were there for the taking but giants cant even beat them with 10 players out

couldnt win the forward battle, god knows what score it would of been if puletua was playing! griffin has gone backwards but that will be to do with signing for leeds.

attack is poor against the top teams.... we cant score!! had loads of chances lastnight to win the game.
missing brett hodgson...grix comes into the line and the play just balls up or he gets tackled.
then we resorted to poor kicks.

how many line breaks did we make lastnight???? 1? brough's then he got injured!
this is why chan has been signed because we dont have anyone who can break the line!

all these long term contracts makes you wonder is they can be motivated, after all they are going to get paid for the next 4 season, 5 in some cases.

looks like teams have figured out how to beat us now... giants dont have a plan b

can see us finishing 6th at this rate with catalans and leeds above us in the table.

Now now, don't start talking silly. Leeds won't make the top 5. I'm sure you will win your last 3 games. Alot of our fans went OTT last week after a close loss to wigan. You were not that far off the pace!

If you want an example of who our most depressed fan was feeling before the game here is a taster.

Quote: brearley84 "We could get smashed to pieces looking at their lineup. Their backs worry me to all hell.

Now I was mocked the other year for fancying Wakey's backs over our own, but would anyone else swap their 1-5 for ours (Assuming I've got the nicknames right)?

Wellens 1 Grix (Yes)
Armstrong 2 Cudjoe (Yes)
Shenton 3 Lawrence (Yes)
Meli 4 Horne (No)
Foster 5 McGilvray (Yes)'"
