A cursory knowledge of these boards shows dozens if not hundreds of posts querying Wire's ability to stay under the salary cap. The use of attempted irony is not uncommon. It's hard to believe that you ( and the poster immediately before this one ) is not aware of this in the slightest, and can't understand ( apparently ) the response from some Wire fans.

I could not care less if YOUR cursory knowledge of the board shows dozens / hundreds of posters refering to the Wolves salary cap. I care even less if YOU think those posters tried to use irony. Whether YOU find something hard to believe matters even less.
The monumental self centred assumption of some wolves fans that others MUST know what posters say about them is narcissistic. This self obession probably explains why some wolves posters on here are thin skinned, need to imply fictional insults and behave so defensively.
They win the Challenge Cup yet still need to tilt at windmills....poor saps.

| Put it this way, Hodgson is on a lot more than he's 'officially' on. So going on just him alone I can see how Warrington stay under the salary cap.

If Wire have found a loophole, then fair play to them. Maybe the RFL needs to close the loophole or maybe we should exploit it if we can afford to.

| Isn't there an off-set of so much of the wage bill when a player has served 10 years? So Briers/Westwood don't cost as much on the cap as you might think.
Brett knows his worth - we used to get beaten by the number of points a reliable goal kicker would have scored. I remember my amazement when, after about 7 years with us, suddenly Benny W started kicking! Lol. If he pushes for 2 years and gets it, more power to his elbow - you're a long time retired in sport

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |

| These type of "salary cap" discussions always intrigue me. For the purpose of a basis point for the discussion, can somebody point me to a link/site/official announcement which lists what each player is OFFICIALLY on.

There isn't one - The Giants fans are simply peeved that they have to pay over the odds for players to join or stay at their club.
The thing is, and Kevin Sinfield actually said this after Leeds' GF win in 2009, players will accept a lower wage to play at the more established, more successful clubs.....Its a harsh fact, but those clubs playing catch up (Huddersfield, Widnes, Hull KR, etc) will be paying high wages for players who couldn't dream of getting those wages at the top of the table sides.
An example of this will be Kevin Brown and his move to Widnes....He is an average half back, yet at Widnes he will be on very decent money, probably up there as the highest earner and probably on a par with the likes of Hodgson and Myler at Wire, who are far better players - Compare that with what he could hope to get at a club like Wire and Wigan (he'd probably be lucky to get half of what he is going to get at Widnes), and you can see the problem that the less established clubs have and also why there is a constant whining about certain clubs breaking the salary cap.

| Warrington are not a 'more established' club though. You have delusions of grandeur. Tony Smith was the catalyst for the recent success, and you need 2 or 3 more seasons of the current performance levels to consider yourselves in the same prestige as Leeds, Saints and Wigan. Warrington are a fine side, but if you're trying to convince me Joel Monaghan signed a long term deal to play for you over over half the clubs in the NRL because of Warrington's 'rugby league prestige', then you're p*ssing in the wind. He's in it for the money.

Oh dear the hoops these knuckle draggers will jump through as a result of me complimenting Andy Gatcliffe
I said AG was best at getting so many players in under the cap. You say it is down to being established ( ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](images/smilies//icon_lol.gif) ). So are we to take it you think the Wolves are significantly more established than Wigan, Saints, Leeds etc....laughable.
Nearly as laughable as the idea of all these charity cases are playing for Warrington. Or maybe AG is gifted at sourcing RL players who are not interested in money...I never thought Brett was in that category.

Whatever the argument over what constitutes 'established', I'd say quite confidently that Wire can offer more chance of success to a player than yourselves, Widnes, Hull KR, etc, can - This is neatly proven by the fact that in just under two seasons, Joel Monaghan already has a top of the table finish and now a Challenge Cup winners medal.
As Sinfield said, a player will sacrifice a few quid if it means he can be part of a successful team, whereas the only temptation that an ambitious club like Widnes can offer at the moment is big money - What they have to hope for is what happened at Wire, where after going gradually through years of paying big money to average players (Reardon, Rauhihi, Fafilli, etc), you eventually reach a point where you have a half decent squad, coupled with a good coach, who will then get you challenging for honours - At that point, attracting the so-called big names becomes a bit easier than it was in the previous years.
The true deluded are those who think you can simply walk in with a wallet load of cash and buy yourself a team and instant success - People accusing Wire of salary indiscretion seem to forget that we have been building this present side since 2003 (our first year in the play-offs and last year at Wilderspool) - With our ground move and astute use of Simon Moran's cash in the transfer market, we have reached the present point where we are a serious trophy contending side, but it has taken almost 10 years.

| The bottom line is that you know about the same about individual player salaries as I do; very little.
I have nothing against the Warrington club. IMO their squad is the strongest in the league by far. Homegrown.... Tier 1..... Tier 2....Whatever. There are bigger, more established clubs in Super League that don't have the names in their squads that Warrington do. That is all.

Unless you can provide proof of that I'd say making statements along these lines is unhealthy for the future of RLFans less Brett or the club get a bit upset by the accusation.

That's the funny thing about these forums, people claiming they know all types of things, yet never able to back up these claims.
Whatever these Giants fans like to suggest with their subtle (and not so subtle) insinuations, the fact remains that until they produce evidence and hand that evidence to the Super League authorities for action to be taken, then ultimately it is they who are the true deluded and us 'thin-skinned' Wire fans who can just sit back and laugh and their whinging.... ![Cool icon_cool.gif](images/smilies//icon_cool.gif)
