Stadium atmosphere is a modern age problem caused by the introduction of all-seater stadia and the human psyche.

Because we buy a ticket for a specific seat, we feel the need to sit on it. Therefore the crowd is spread out and the pockets of singers further apart. We don't want to move to a different seat because we need the 'comfort' of the regularity.

When we're away from home this comfort isn't there so different people crowd together and thus an atmosphere is formed.

Something definitely needs to be done about improving the atmosphere at home games. What's happened to the guys at the back of the stand that used to start most of the chants off? We're at the top of the league looking as consistent as ever in SL yet hardly anyone wants to get behind the boys which is unbelievable when you hear the players say how much it lifts them to hear us singing and cheering them on. I'm not having a go at you guys at the back but it's more likely to start a chant going if you're at the back chanting over peoples heads rather than someone at the front chanting to the pitch alone. How about some of our pre recorded chants over the tannoy to start off some atmosphere?

most of us are still there ponner,albeit in depleted numbers.
and we do start chants but as this thread has alluded to most chants get drowned out by music blaring out or big g's drum being constantly banged,as we saw at cas yesterday if the team is playing well and lots of people are grouped together then people will join in with the chants and songs.
at home games too many people are spread out all over the ground.

Then the club needs to promote some areas for singers to congregate in the two main stands

but again durham,as we've alluded to already,people aren't willing to move from seats they sit in every year so we end up going round in circles.

1. Atmosphere is poor.
2. Create a singing section
3. People won't move.
4. Goto step 1.

Repeat indefinitely.

1 get the club to ask people to move to singing section as being something supporters can do to improve atmosphere
2 set up section
3 see what happens.
4 I repeat this ad nauseum. Until it is tried by the club how will we know. If it doesnt work it doesnt work. If it does work i have a great ne ne ne ne neh moment

Singing section is already set up, everyone knows where it is.

Let's be right, the club and players have already stated hundreds of times that a noisy crowd helps them so I don't think they need to say it again. It's down to people to decide to go to the singing section. It's on them. Not the club and not the singing section. The people that want to sing have to move to the singing section, simple as that.

Where is the SINGING SECTION in the RIVERSIDE stand ?

In the opposite stand. Why have two and halve the number of people in the section?

As I said. Everyone knows where the singing section is.

If you're going to talk the talk then you're going to have to walk the walk. You can't expect the singing section to move stands because you don't want to move. You're running everyone else down because you won't move!

If you won't move then that's fine but there's no point preaching, moaning about a change you won't make and expecting others to suit you.

There isn't one as like i said before, the Riverside stand was always where the quieter fans chose to go ....those that wanted to sing went in the Kilner bank, the ones on the Riverside went there because they wanted to watch the game in peace and not surrounded by people shouting and singing - maybe that isn't the case now but i know it traditionally was.

There are people that sing in BOTH stands.

You stay in the Kilner bank stand and stand with the singers there.
I will try to get the club to do something to get the singers in the Riverside stand together.
It is rather simple really.


Is it so hard to understand.

As i understand it many of the singers over there no longer go to games or seem to have stopped singing.

Why knock people for trying something different. It does not affect you. It has no impact on you. Yet you take every opportunity to run it down.

What is your Constructive answer to the lack of atmosphere. ?
